In La Rose v. His Majesty the King, these youth are asking the court to hold the federal government accountable for violating their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and security of the person by continuing a trajectory of greenhouse gas emissions that causes serious and significant harm.

Today is October 1st, Treaty Day in Mi’kma’ki. October 1st was designated in the Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1752-53 as a day on which the Mi’kmaq and British would come together, receive gifts, and renew their friendship.

The living wage for Halifax is $29.40 and the lowest living wage in the province (Cape Breton) is $24.50. The Nova Scotia minimum wage falls way short of what people need to make ends meet. ~50% of workers earn less than a living wage.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are about remembering and honouring the thousands of Indigenous children who were stolen and placed into residential schools. We are all treaty people. Settlers, stand in solidarity with those who are healing and commit to reconciliation.

Today, September 30th, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, when we remember and honour the thousands of Indigenous children who were stolen from their families as part of Canada’s colonial project. EAC is committed to doing our part, as Treaty people here in unceded Mi'kma'ki.

Things I ❤️ about cycling in Montréal (compared to Halifax): 1. So many bike lanes 2. Most bike lanes are separated from cars 3. So many cyclists 4. Clear cycling traffic signals, if not you go on advanced walk signal (legal in Québec, not in Nova Scotia AFAIK) 5. Lots of functional bike parking

When I was in Montréal in 2022, pretty much every time I spoke French the other person could tell I was not fluent and would switch our conversation to English. Since, I have clearly done well to improve my French fluency, for now people will speak to me in French. Je suis fière de moi! 😄

I enjoy watching bumblebees “rob” nectar from the cardinal flowers. The tube-shaped flowers are too long for bees to reach down, so they bite holes at the base of the flowers to access the nectar. In doing so, they don’t touch any pollen and so aren’t providing pollination services. #nativeplants
A common eastern bumble bee bites a hole at the base of a crimson red cardinal flower to steal the nectar. Orange coneflowers are blurred in the background.

Turns out she is a he! He emerged while I wasn’t home but my husband shared some photos and he was still drying his wings when I returned. Monarchs emerge with fluid in their abdomen that they have to pump into their crumpled wings. They then spend time drying out their wings before flying off.
