I can get behind a required course (that you could test out of) on multiple computer skills (keyboarding, file organization, email management, basic excel, and ai). None of these alone really require a full semester to gain basic computer skills but combined, could be a semester-long course.

Overall, so many falsehoods, misrepresentations, and faulty assumptions in this article made by people who claim to be white knighting for “truth.” Embarrassing

Next time the press wants to talk about Intro to Soc or the content of our textbooks, I'm available. Folks with good intentions manage to find me. I don't know why folks who don't teach intro and certainly have never opened more than a single textbook keep getting platformed on course content.

Don't we already have a method for citing things you did not actually track down yourself? You could include "as cited in [ChatGPT]" if you don't want to be bothered with checking the source output.

I'm prepping my summer courses. I can prep one using my book. The other course? I'm stuck because the book (along with its integrated assignments) uses an external tool. I don't know when it will become available and if it will be ready in time for summer courses (which begin May 18).

Fun fact: The year your child turns 17, you are no longer eligible for the child credit, even though they are still a dependent. That was a fun surprise that could have paid for flights on Southwest to go to Disney for the day.

Why do fascists hate sociology? Because it makes transparent everything fascists don't want you to know. A sociological imagination makes us harder to control. Long live the sociological imagination.

Colleges need to stop trying to teach students how to use AI. Even in the theoretical use cases, genAI requires the expertise to know the process and outcome WITHOUT IT to be able to use it for shortcuts and then THOROUGHLY vet the product. EXPERTISE. Students don't have that, they're students.
