My org @immcouncil.org represents those two gay men. They had been arrested on charges of sodomy by Iranian moral police, and fled the country seeking asylum. They face the death penalty if returned, yet the Trump admin denied their asylum claims in a kangaroo court process. They are terrified.
Two Iranian men, who are gay, told their lawyer Bekah Wolf with the American Immigration Council that they were set to be deported on the Sunday flight. Homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death in Iran, which executed two gay men in 2022 and is considered one of the world's most repressive countries for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
"They're terrified," Wolf told MS NOW. One of her clients "calls every 45 minutes begging me to save his life."
"We need a court of some sort to fully hear their claims before they're sent back to a country where being gay is punishable by death," said Wolf.
She said her two clients have no criminal convictions and entered the U.S. in early 2025 on asylum claims. Both were in the middle of appeals though did not have stays of removal, Wolf said.
Ultimately, Wolf said, "they did not have full hearings of their asylum claims in any meaningful way."

We should set up infrastructure. That said.. The way y'all are tossing around "just get an e-bike" and "just join an e-bike ride share" like everyone's "just got a few thousand bucks to blow" and everyone "just has disposable monthly rental bike income" is really just messed up.

Republicans ignore rules AND law. Repub SCOTUS oks it. Zero reason for Democrats to not operate within the constraints of law to help this country & it's citizens survive. How great your life must be that you don't have to concern yourself with your survival or that of your fellow citizens.

“It should be illegal for you to be mean to me and legal for me to kill you” is basically the Republican platform.

NEW: @nbcnews.com reports that an immigration judge dismissed the asylum case of Andry Hernandez, the innocent man currently imprisoned without trial in El Salvador pursuant to a deal between the Trump admin and Nayib Bukele. His lawyers argue that this is an attempt to "complete the disappearance."

Immigration courts are dismissing cases of those sent to El Salvador, potentially cutting off their return
An immigration judge in San Diego dismissed the asylum claim of a gay makeup artist from Venezuela — one of at least 14 such dismissals to take place in recent weeks.

This hits home for me. Words that literally came out of my 17 y.o. mouth to my class counselor who suggested I major in engineering, "What's an engineer?" America First - unless we're helping the very people that would actually make America First.

City of London Corp has today issued stats showing largest increase in cycling in the Square Mile since records began. October 2024 saw 139,000 people cycling a day across 30 locations - up 50,000 from 89,000 in 2022. The increase of over 50% marks the largest jump since recording started in 1999.

Makes sense since SpaceX will pay for its development, not taxpayers, right? 🙄

I still want my news with as little bias as possible. An unbiased headline could still get your point across with something like, "Trump administration undoing decades of the Smithsonian promoting displays of contributions to US history by minority Americans"

This moment when the penny drops that trying to implement bathroom bans is an impossibility for the former Tory Chief Secretary Simon Clarke is delicious.

This from the article. Had to be said. 😂 "Lisa Anderson was born in Pennsylvania, which has been part of the United States since December 12, 1787. That makes Dr. Anderson a U.S. citizen."

How do we know Pope Francis was a decent person and a step forward for LGBTQ Catholics? People at our mom's Catholic Church who voted for Lauren Boebert and Donald Trump kept telling her how awful a pope he was.

Jeez, are you telling me those years as I child I spent shoveling coal into the furnace were all for nothing? Did it even heat our house or was it all in our minds? Were we even cold? Was it even winter?

The Trib Editorial Board recently published an opinion piece against lowering the speed limit in Chicago. The piece skims over the lifesaving benefits of a lower speed limit and overlooks that this approach has worked in other cities. Here's our response. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/01/20/l...

It's very close, but it is different. Print, including Braille, forces the reader to fully create worlds in their heads whereas audio has the fantasy world partially created by the speaker. You're going on a guided imaginary journey.
