As the former part owner of a tin-pot small business I can confidently say that red-tape, paperwork, employees, etc etc were never a problem for us. The supermarket duopoly though, strangled most of our clients, sooner or later.

Ā pox on both of them. Poxes, actually. I spent time this afternoon with some friends who will most probably vote N or ACT in Tāmaki. But while we we were arguing, the one thing we all agreed on was that kids should not go hungry. It's the how.

What to say to that man. I almost despair. It's a huge failure somewhere. We have the dearest family friends farming in Hawkes Bay. Profoundly decent people who have given many a hand up. But the racism is deeply ingrained. There is no other way to think. "Aucklanders don't understand".

I'm in Tamaki electorate. Wall to wall National and ACT billboards here, and next door in Epsom. Some of us are considering voting National in order to be rid of ACT in Epsom. It's not straightforward here. We have an excellent candidate in Max Harris.

Both important jobs. That's what the pay equity comparators were designed to sort through. BVV was either stupid and didn't understand, or deliberately misled the public.

You are so lucky to have the fabulous Zealandia in your backyard. Meanwhile, here in Tāmaki Makaurau the council are promoting the Eastern Bays Songbird project while trees are being removed all around. Where will the birds roost? Or nest? Or feed?

What has this government been up to? Brad knows. Brad's been keeping a list (over on FB)... #nzpol
Over the last three years, I’ve been keeping a list of the rubbish this Government has done.
Stopped work on Auckland light rail.
Stopped all work on the Lake Onslow renewable battery project.
Disestablish the Ministry for the Environment.
Scrapped the smoke-free law to fund tax cuts.
Scrapped Fair Pay Agreements.
Gave $3 billion in tax cuts to landlords.
Tired to paid himself $52,000 to live in one of his own many properties, on top of his half a million dollar salary.
The so-called party of infrastructure ... cut Cook Strait ferry deal, then paid $8 million for consultants to tell them they need new ships. $700 million wasted in total. Still no ships.
Stopped the Clean Car Discount, after Luxon took an $8,000 discount himself.
Blocked statistical reporting on who does and doesn’t pay their share of tax. Think about that!
Broke its election promise and didn’t scrap the app tax.
Scrapped Three Waters, pushing costs onto ratepayers and increasing rates.
Used $4,150 of taxpayers’ money to pay for his te reo Māori classes after saying, “People in the real world should pay for it themselves.”
Halved the crayfish take for locals, but cut the commercial take by only one-fifth.
Gutted freshwater protections so cruel intensive winter grazing could continue to pollute water ways.
Took $80 million from hospitals.
Cut DOC funding by $125 million.
Scrapped the First Home Grant.
Gave half a million dollars of taxpayers’ money to their mate Bill English to do a "review".
Blew $8 million on consultants for a proposed tunnel under Wellington.
Wasted $4 million on a six-person advisory group to talk about crime and reduce youth offending. They achieved nothing.
Gave big tobacco a $216 million tax cut.
Refused to reinstate Jobs for Nature while unemployment soared.
Reduced the qualifications needed for relief teachers.
Introduced new road tolls.
Deprioritised police responses to mental health and family violence call-outs.
Slashed $107 million a year from school lunches, costing…

Survey of one, but years ago the sleeper from Istanbul to Ankara was great and I slept like a log. No stops. The squat loo straight onto the tracks was a bit startling though.

My brother commutes to & from Frankton & the Strand station in Auckland often since his partner moved back there to take care of her parents. It's a great service💚💚💚. But there is no way to get PT home at either end. We picked him up this evening, otherwise it was a long walk, or a rideshare.

Hop off @ National Park & have a nice place to stay? I'd do that. One summer I caught the train from Newmarket to a crummy pub in South Auckland to work. Still a shit view, when we did the Auckland-Wellington trip 25 years later. Poor tourists. The view is meh, but the speed & service is inexcusable

Partner and I did the Auckland to Wellington train 3-4 years ago. It was a national embarrassment. Tourists were baffled & frustrated. Excruciatingly slow and went through the grubby end of every shit town on the way.More expensive than a return flight & car. Infinitely better to sleep through it

I listened to part of his interview with Guyon Espiner today on the subject. Seymour should be live fact-checked. He is a consummate subject twister, smart alec, manipulator, and self promoter. It's a pity (for us) that he didn't stay in Canada.

Worth remembering that if it costs the government $4.5b to reverse the gender pay tax, then it costs the women affected $4.5b to leave it in place.

manager how much sick leave she was allowed. And the answer was none, strictly speaking, but of course you can take x weeks off. My manager was bullied into taking early retirement for describing widely shared discontent. #joinyourunion.

I once worked for a semi publicly funded org that did not have union coverage. The governing organisation was fairly benign, but there were still enough issues to cause unease and the staff applied to the PSA to be allowed to join. One of the "backroom staff" required a heart bypass. She asked 1/
