One of my headlights isn’t working, so I’ve phoned the mechanic: “Which headlight is broken?” “Left”, I answered without hesitating. I have spent all day wondering if she meant as the driver sees it or as if you’re looking at the front of the car. I meant left as the driver sees it.

Tonight is my last night of full time employment. After 18 years, I'm quitting radio, and enrolling to re-train as a maths and science teacher. I'm pondering starting an email newsletter/blog to document the journey. Is that interesting to anyone or nah not really? Genuinely asking.

Millennials who were 9-15yo in 2001 had a small taste of what life could be like. We were told to expect great things, we could become whoever we wanted, the world would be our oyster. Then planes hit towers. And we’ve watched metaphorical planes hit towers almost every year since. Some life.

I have little evidence to support my theory, but I think teenagers struggle with writing (word choice, grammar, run-on sentences, etc) because they don't have conversations out loud with grown ups as young children. I think that's where I learned what "sounds right" when it comes to words.

No cheating. Share the last picture of the sky from your camera roll. Had to scroll back a little bit because I spent most of my time inside. Not sure if you’d really call this a photo “of the sky”.

If you’re going to model reading for pleasure to your kid, it’s great that there are excellent books to read. Might not be for everyone, but if you’re hooked after the first couple of chapters, you’ll like The Man Who Saw Seconds.

Relieved a Y9 science class this afternoon. Topic was longitude and latitude. Began by asking every student to point 'North' on 3... 2... 1... Guys. Do NOT ask 13/14-year-olds for directions. 🤦‍♂️ (Made notably worse given we're in a wing of a building labelled 'South' and 'North' is RIGHT THERE!!)

I grew up watching my parents and their friends work for the election, and then joined the staff myself. It's hugely rewarding, so if you have the capacity (an who doesn't love a little pay boost right before Christmas) you should apply.
