Bottom line: can we stop both-siding everything? Trump is unpopular for reasons that are not the same as why the Democratic Party, as a brand, is unpopular. Maybe also look beyond the headline numbers before making pronouncements?

At least some of it is because Democratic voters want Democratic officials to fight harder against Trump. Not all approval/disspproval is the same. Plus: a lot of people just don't like politics or parties. Maybe if we had more representative elections, people could find parties they liked.

I accept the empirical fact that the Democrats, as a party, have a low approval number. But I need mainstream media (this week on both The Daily and NPR) to stop acting like this is the same kind of disapproval as Trump's. www.realclearpolling.com/polls/favora...

I was listening to The Daily this week, and they had to mention Hasan Piker as being linked to El-Sayed, as if some streamer is more important than any number of elected Republicans that Rogers is directly linked to, not to mention POTUS. "Both sides" dontcha know.

This has been one of my concerns since the start of Trump 2.0: that the lesson for the next D president is to be an autocrat for things Ds want and spiral into a cycle of D and R dictators that do as much as they can get away with for their time in office (until the system utterly implodes).

This enrages me so deeply I don't know what to say. Being able to control your body is *the* most basic freedom, one which is necessary for the exercise of all other freedoms possible in a liberal democratic society

I'm not naive enough to actually believe this will happen, but Democrats could be preparing, right now, lists of impeachment charges against (at a bare minimum) Hegseth, Kennedy, Mullin, Patel, Blanche, & Trump, as well as Bondi, Bovino, & Noem (still worth doing!) that rely purely on public facts,

And it shows the inevitable logic of rigid bipartism: you have to vote for your abhorrent "family" because the only other viable choice on the ballot is the enemy. A system that locks us all into strict two-party competition leads to this kind of strategic thinking.

There's going to be an urge from Millennial & GenX Dems to treat Nov. '26 & '28 like '06 & '08, respectively "Let's not bother to reform any institutions and blow our wad on a policy push" theyll say Except this time we are Weimar '32 & Vance, Eric Schmitt, et al are gleefully opposed to democracy

I am concerned that a big win in November will be interpreted as a template for the future and induce short-term thinking. I need public voices of consequence to get politicians to focus on long-term problems and not give permission for the reversion to "normal" politics. (6/6)

If both DSA types and moderate Dems win House seats, what's the lesson? I point this out because I see another round of "messaging" debates coming when the real discussion needs to be about small-d democratic reforms while big-D Dems have power- not thinking a recipe has been discovered. (5/6)

Steven L. Taylor @sltaylor.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Those prices and other key factors are not anything that can guide future Democratic strategizing. Candidate quality matters, but I can already hear all the theorizing about how 26 will tell the Dems the magic formula for 28. But if both Talarico and El-Sayed both win, which is "the model"? (4/6)

Steven L. Taylor @sltaylor.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
If there is a Blue Wave that crashes over places like Iowa and Kansas, diesel prices will be a key "ingredient" that has nothing to do with the Democrats. It will not be something they can count on in the future. It is part of a "recipe" that cannot be duplicated in future elections. 3/6).

Steven L. Taylor @sltaylor.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
A "recipe" is something that can be purposefully replicated in the future simply by acquiring the right ingredients. But to continue with the metaphor, future Dems can't run down to the store and procure a highly unpopular president and force the Rs to nominate bad candidates. (2/6)

Agreed. It is laughable and worthy of mockery, but I hope people see beyond the absurdity to the sloppy willingness to defame a public servants using flimsy “evidence” in service of a corrupt administration (and in hopes of furthing a career). This was not a one-off goof; it is part of a pattern.

These ads go in the same category as brazen, easily disproven lies after ICE killings. It’s not about persuasion. It’s a display of power. They could have passed them off as PAC-funded. They added “paid for by the U.S. government” because they want us to know they can break the law with impunity.
