Good people, here’s the pitch: - You can subscribe once and support everyone! (just tell them to join) - The indie web is cool! People making stuff and sharing it with everyone for free deserve your support! - The world wants us to think people aren’t kind anymore. I don’t believe it! slowcl.app

Creators! Here’s the pitch: - It is much easier, more rewarding, and more sustainable to convince people to support you AND your fellow creators than it is to just support you - People are more likely to support you if they’ve already bought in to giving $5+ to support creativity slowcl.app

Platforms like this take awhile to build, especially when they’re built by one person, with no VC funding. I really appreciate all the early support and can’t wait to build this place into something incredible for all of you! Let’s support the indie web and prove collective appreciation works! 💪

As a reminder, it is free for creators to sign up for slowcl.app and receive applause (money!) Sub if you can! But the best way you can support indie creators NOW is: 🤝 join! 🎉tell anyone making cool stuff about it! 🫶 share your Slowclap page / goals and 👏’s (given and earned!)

031

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Yeah, you do still have to ask, but why not make that ask collaborative? Instead of “support me”, “support all of us” Instead of “sub to get behind my paywall”, “if I can hit this goal, I’ll be able to release this cool thing for everyone to enjoy” It just seems so much less… toxic

110

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I do think discoverability is harder now, and I think making things and sharing them and hoping people will support you for them is a slower path, but I genuinely believe most people that sub to a Patreon or whatever would still support people without the “I’ll give you extra stuff if you do!”

110

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I think it did used to be better because the mechanism to do this was more passive, and maintaining relationships with readers was more important. Pre social networking and algorithmic content the only ways to boost popularity were to make stuff and friends (and I suppose SEO but SEO sucks too)

110

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Some people benefit from it, but does anyone making content actually enjoy the “subscribe to me for xyz” system? It creates a transactional relationship out of what should be a supportive one, puts obligations on creators that don’t scale, segments viewership, and forces you to compete with peers.

130

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Stripe makes this so difficult, but yeah, releasing your work for free and letting people support you directly is a great option. We just need to normalize people supporting things people are sharing for free 💪

In all seriousness, this is very much what I’m hoping these new goals cards can do for people. Decentralized, zero effort, community focused events that creators can use as incentives for unlocking stuff that everyone gets to enjoy.

It’s just so wild to me that “wanting to play Chrono Trigger because someone told you it’s good” and “wanting to play Chrono Trigger because someone told you it’s good AND you’re a woman” occupy such different levels of legitimacy to these people. How dare you have an interest in good games?
