Nother Scot. I’d rather let the English sort this out themselves but I think they’ll a) screw it up, and b) screw us in the process.

I listened a lot c. 2005-2010 for my work. Over that period his scoffing, blustering, talking over people, “Come off it” etc. got steadily worse. Then I retired 🙂

I sometimes forget that people remote from the channel crossing don’t know the name Eurostar, or that it’s a train. Until they say helpfully “Yes… or there’s that train that goes under the sea!”

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

I had this lots (retired now). V. stressful. Not just too much email: too much actual work. Deleting trivia helps a bit with little risk, but some of the actual work would never get done. Your peers & bosses may still not care, but they can’t claim not to know. Good cartoon btw.

Dystopian. “There will be Consequences” is normally used for comic effect. The kids won’t learn them by heart. Will they “suffer consequences” too? Parents report things to the govt; fascists report them to “the party”.

Apparently so. I had to look up the meaning, and then the penny dropped. Similar process with Lunga, which turns out to be cognate with луг, with meanings ranging from bog to water-meadow etc.

On a recent trip to IT I got checked at Kehl and I *think* again on a NJ from Stuttgart to Udine. (I got woken up and didn’t know where I was.) But since then, going Plzeň - FFTO - Berlin, nothing. So it seems v. spotty. So any bad actors will have worked out where they can get away with it.

Thanks, super. I recently discovered a handful of Romanian words and names borrowed from OCS that preserve traces of nasals: the word rând and various places called Lunga. Quite an exclusive club, I guess.

Can’t believe no one has ever thought of the idea of selling us hot food. I, for one, am both excited and, if I’m honest, a little apprehensive about the idea of warm food. www.ft.com/content/bdb6... Subway rival bets hot sandwiches will sell in UK’s ‘cold and rain’
US sandwich maker Jersey Mike’s is launching an ambitious expansion plan in the UK, with its billionaire founder betting that “the cold and the rain” in Britain will push consumers to embrace the brand’s hot subs.

Harsh. Surely the listeners can't be as bad as the presenters? One recently presented “Canzona duodecìmi”, full stop. That was her version of the whole title. That’s two-thirds of the title, and it doesn't make sense, and she still mispronounced “duodècimi”.

I read some yarn about a former head of Eton who reckoned his job was to teach his kids an air of “effortless superiority”. I can believe it. I think I’ve seen the products. I can’t see an honest use for it. I can see dishonest uses for it.
