Abingdon Road, Botley Road, Woodstock Road, Banbury Road all looking pretty congested. Oxford still has too many cars. Obviously we need to wait a few weeks to see how the traffic filters will actually do.
Screenshot of Google Maps traffic, 5:10pm, Tuesday 29th September. Traffic looks heavy in lots of places: Woodstock Road, Banbury Road, Botley Road, Abingdon Road.

Bit more queue at 4:32. It's still much worse in north Oxford though.

The main problems in Oxford right now, 4:07pm, are in the North - Banbury Road through Summertown, heading outbound, and Woodstock Road.
Screenshot of Google Maps showing traffic in North Oxford at 4:07pm on Tuesday 29th September 2026. Red lines run outbound along Banbury Road and Woodstock Road up to the ring road. Banbury Road is queueing from before Marston Ferry Road.
There's also a queue on the A40 approaching the roundabout where it meets Banbury Road.

But busier at 4:02pm: red outbound from around Alexandra Road to Seacourt Park and Ride.

Not guaranteeing doing this all afternoon, but it looks fine at 3:30.
Screenshot of Google Maps showing traffic on the Botley Road at about 3:30pm on Tuesday 29th September 2026 (day 2 of traffic filters). Not a whole lot going on, really.

Last one 09:03. A34 and Southern Bypass busy, but if anyone tells you there was gridlock in Oxford in the morning rush hour today, they're mistaken.
Screenshot of Google Maps showing Oxford traffic at 09:03. Southbound on the A34 is busy all the way from Wolvercote to Hinksey Hill. The southern bypass is busy. Slight red patch on Botley Road now, but really not too bad.

At 08:45, Botley and Abingdon Roads remain mostly clear. There is increased queueing on the A34 in both directions approaching Hinksey Hill roundabout.

I got these iron on badminton awards in the late 1980s. I think it may be time to admit I'm not going to iron them onto anything.

The listed cobbled pavement outside the White Hart could be protected from motor vehicle damage with an additional set of bollards and cycle parking on the other side directly in front of the pub. Planters on both sides of the road could provide a pinch point to reduce vehicle speed.
On the left, cobbled pavement in front of the White Hart pub, with an on road marked car parking space next to it.

On the right, the new cycle racks and bollards, next to a wider parked car.

Actually, it's not possible. I uploaded the wrong pic.

Having gone into the walled churchyard, it's just possible to see the stands in this pic down the side of the church if you zoom in.

There is no way to see these racks from the road in daylight, let alone in the evening.

I went for a look this afternoon. A parked car next to the Sheffield stands and bollards was further into the road.
The new bike parking on St Andrews Road Headington, behind it is a parked car, which comes further into the road than the bollards.

Anakin Padme meme

Anakin: We're very proud of the number of kids in Oxford who cycle to school
Padme: So you gritted all the cycle paths, right?
Anakin: ...
Padme: RIGHT?

My daughter left her Spotify account logged in on our TV while she did her DofE expedition back in April, so I did what any self-respecting dad would do. Payoff finally came today.

All our buses are early again. The bus timetable will need some changes with the reduced congestion.
Screenshot from Google Maps displaying bus times for a stop on Abingdon Road. Nearly every bus is expected early (from 6 to 16 minutes).

@badlyparkedox.bsky.social I'll only be on this job a few hours, people can charge their cars elsewhere.

This weekend a friend and I climbed Cader Idris, an expedition we'd been planning for around 25 years.
Mountains and a lake.

A horseshoe valley with Craig Cwm Amarch on the left, Cader Idris on the right, and Llyn Cau in the centre.

Yesterday my son fell off his bike on the way home from school. Did he slip on ice? No. He clipped his handlebar on the sticky out bits of one of these barriers. Barriers like these inconvenience thousands of cyclists on this route every day.
