Important #Ebola terminology: “Bundibugyo” is not a strain of Ebola virus—it is a distinct Ebolavirus species, separate from Zaire & Sudan. A species is a major genetic grouping with differences in virology, epi & medical countermeasure effectiveness; a strain is a genetic variant in a species.

A vaccine for the current #Ebola outbreak would be valuable, but we have controlled Ebola before without vaccines. What’s urgently needed now is: contact tracing, surveillance, IPC, diagnostics, clinical care,& community engagement. Outbreaks are stopped by strong public health responses.
