& we've actually seen examples of this in in recent memory: i'm a pandemic trans, the lockdown/social distancing period was the first time in my life when i had space & time to think about & actualize who i could be, absent everyone else's expectations, and i know many people share that experience

...much ink has been spilled on the idea that any change to the body must be due to social pressure and simply creates self alienation, but htis logic was flawed from the start. a world where there was no social momentum to fetter and constrain the ways people want to change their bodies and experience new or other things into singular acceptable avenues would permit far more change, not less change
