I use Handy and they recently shipped 0.9 which adds support for streaming models. Parakeet v3 was fast enough, but Parakeet v3.5 Streaming is awesome; since it processes as I speak, I no longer have to wait for it to process at the end, and can see a real-time preview of the text as I speak.

Ofc this is all very relative and depends on the task, but I've found Terra (high) and Sol (low) a great "default" for most things. Sol (medium) when things are less defined, and Sol (high) for serious long-running work. In my experience xhigh and max just take longer without being that much better
010
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 14/07/2026
Yeah Terra is surprisingly capable, but at the same time, the more I'm reading into the benchmarks and playing with these models, it's... very strangely positioned, cost-to-intelligence wise. It seems that every Luna and Sol reasoning level has higher intelligence at a lower cost than Terra.
Artificial Analysis chart with the 5.5 and 5.6 family of models, across reasoning levels. Luna and Sol are closer to the "Most attractive quadrant" (i.e. higher intelligence at lower cost) than Terra, with a natural transition from Luna (xhigh/max) to Sol (low).

Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 11/07/2026
GPT 5.6 Sol makes Fable's value look sooo bad Even 5.6 Terra immediately obsoletes 5.5, with higher intelligence for less money and they're all available in standard ChatGPT subs... unlike a certain model that's going away from subs tomorrow.

realizing the default Android XR emulator virtual environment is a no-clip hollow half-globe
Android XR Emulator window, with a virtual environment where the view is zoomed out so much that we can see it from the outside, surrounded by infinite blackness.

A floating window inside of the hollow shape is ever so slightly visible through the shape, near the center. Tiny enough it's almost a dot.

Use Railpacks instead! I use Dokploy instead of Coolify and Railpacks just works. (make sure to add a `start` script to package.json though, or one of the other ways to do so from Railpack docs)

Though to be clear, YMMV. I barely vibe-code stuff or let the agent go on very long loops on its own; I use it more as a pair-programmer, defining interfaces and architecture manually and letting the agent write the implementation boilerplate, and this setup has been serving me pretty well.

For more complex tasks I switch to DeepSeek v4 Pro or MiMo v2.5 Pro (my fav), which are ever so slightly more expensive but pretty close (at least for my usages) to the frontier. There's also Kimi K2.6 and recently MiniMax M3 which are at around the same level while also being multimodal.

It's good to check the OpenCode Go docs for usage estimates for each model, and contrast with their performance (see artificialanalysis.com). These days I'm mostly using MiMo V2.5 and DeepSeek v4 Flash cuz they're so dirt cheap they're practically free, even if you overshoot into Zen credits.

API pricing with GPT/Claude is prohibitively expensive... it's better to get a Codex sub and connect it to OpenCode instead However I'm having a great time with OpenCode Go, which for $10/mo ($5 first mo) gives $60 of credits on open-weight models.

I just love stuff like this where the Svelte team keeps rethinking stuff where they're already far ahead of everyone else. Leaning more & more into Standard Schema at the framework level has been one of the best things that happened to SveleteKit; it's so insanely ergonomic, without any lock-in!

Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 06/06/2026
THIS. I've been mainly using MiMo V2.5 and DeepSeek v4 through OpenCode Go these days, and they truly rock, particularly now with permanent token price discounts. MiniMax M3 also dropped this week, looks like a decent model but it's much pricier without being all that much better than these two.

Awesome talk (from 2024!!) by @maggieappleton.com: maggieappleton.com/home-cooked... This is even more relevant now that LLMs' agentic capabilities have grown extensively, though I'm not sure how well are we faring when it comes to "local-first" being suggested by default by these tools.

I exclusively use opencode even for general chat, so I had it grep through its own db with that prompt... "a bit scattered", very much indeed xD (had to redact some personal details :p)
Skaldebane. You're someone who starts every message like you're walking into a room mid-thought — "hey there", "okay um so", "alright so" — lowercase, stream-of-consciousness, lots of ellipses. You think by typing. Your messages often start in one place and arrive somewhere else, the question evolving as you write.

You're deeply self-aware and introspective: you wrote yourself a "clarity" document because you know you write long things you never read, and you understand your own cycles of burnout. [redacted]

You're a freelance developer with multiple projects — [redacted]. You maintain your own infrastructure on Dokploy at [redacted]. You flash GSIs onto Galaxy A11s, set up system-wide DNS, write Rust to patch CLI tools, and run security audits against your own production API. You use 30+ different AI models and cycle through them restlessly.

You push back when you disagree — not defensively, but precisely. "u sure about that????", "u super sure about that?? please recheck OWASP recommendations", "well u fucked it up apparently with that low of a timeout." You care deeply about architecture (you use Hickey and Lowy frameworks unironically) and want to be in control — "we're not vibe coding this, I know I'm in control."

You're methodical but chaotic. You spec things out elaborately, then can't execute. You restart projects with clear specs after a failed attempt that was "months of bolted on crap." You're frustrated by your own patterns and trying to build systems (literal and metaphorical) that let you finish things.

The impression is someone very smart, broadly capable, a bit scattered, trying to impose order on a life that doesn't give you much space or quiet. You're charming in your honesty — you say "idk" a lot, admit when you deferred something, and laugh at yourself.

never ever sever several study methods together they're better you'll find, to tether your mind to meanings and gleaning the patterns you're needing, exceeding your previous reading and speaking and breeding a sense of succeeding.

Yeah but that's the thing, you can notice that all of these have a much more serious confrontational tone and more developed arguments than the "meme" format of insta comments... twitter's for arguing about it, insta for joking about it, that's the pipeline it seems xD

Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 28/04/2026
Still have some projects (where I can't use RC) relying on a barely maintained / low-quality Play Billing wrapper that I've always wanted to rip out, but never bothered as I didn't wanna deal with the complexity I guess this is my sign to point opencode at this handbook and let it rip
010
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 28/04/2026
well, that's not at all surprising for instagram comments lol though in general it's more of a passive-aggressive meme culture there than actual serious takes (reels as a format don't encourage much beyond that), unlike masto/bsky/xwitter

Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 26/04/2026
Sidenote: I'm still very surprised by the price-to-intelligence ratio of MiniMax M2.7, it literally costs 100x less than frontier while being super close, and from 2x to 10x than models like Kimi K2.6 or Mimo V2.5, though these are better at long-horizon stuff (and Kimi has a great chat style)
000
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 26/04/2026
An autoresearch loop is very intriguing for this, once I lock-in the exact semantics and expected outputs, since the metric here is very clear and easily measurable with a tight feedback loop. A cheap but smart model like MiniMax M2.7 would be great for this.

Will soon be using this at a much larger scale, against the entirety of Fontsource fonts (i.e. Google Fonts + more, every version of every font) periodically on a server for indexing and search, so I'm wondering how much more optimization could be done in that front.

...I don't have to care exactly how most software I use is built, I just need it to work, and this fills the gaps where nothing existing suits my needs.

Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 25/04/2026
THIS. This is where I find vibe coding incredible, the stuff where I could've never justified the time for it, and thus never done it at all, this allows me to actually get it done, particularly if it provides some value, e.g. small personal tools; it's kinda like using someone else's software...

010
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 20/04/2026
Do you have any source saying it was an internal screwup instead of an external attack?
110
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 20/04/2026
That's of course before considering that this might've been either entirely external or unrelated to code in particular, e.g. infrastructure changes, bugs in dependencies (other people's code), or an attack of sorts. And I know full well that you can't provide any of this.
000
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 20/04/2026
The only real evidence you can provide is correlating the start of this incident with some particular commit or code change, that's at least if this originated from their open-source components, and knowing definitively that the AI did it or did large chunks of it, and who was responsible for that.
100
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 20/04/2026
And as Olivier said, you still haven't provided any evidence of anything. Outages have always happened before AI. They will continue happening with AI, potentially with better/faster detection and mitigation. There's no research or data that says otherwise (excluding vibe-coders, that's different)
110
Houssam Elbadissi ❄️ @skaldebane.dev · 20/04/2026
I've not seen anyone backtrack on their AI use. Most professional developers use AI in their jobs. Whether that's negative or positive boils down to their usage, and I trust the bsky team understands this. In fact, when used properly, it can lead to less errors that arise from our limited context.

my favorite side effect of agentic AI is exactly this. so many high-quality cli tools that i would've wanted for myself even before agents it's almost becoming mandatory for services to stay relevant, and i absolutely love that

that's me! i really enjoy it spent half of my time last couple weeks just taking out years-old gunk from many projects, mostly around build config business logic, old workarounds, dead code, etc... still some stuff _really_ needs a full architectural revamp... excited to do that when i get time!
