Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 21/07/2025The scythe is perfect for staying on top of the invasive, noxious species'. You can be very selective. I have better results if I use it early in the day, when there's still a bit of dew. It's not great, though, if you have a lot of fallen limbs or roots in the grass. 010
Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 21/07/2025Yeah, I do still use battery powered trimmers. But there are particular uses that a scythe is especially suited to. I find I can be more precise with a scythe. My blade is a bush/mowing hybrid. I have a couple areas that I maintain as sort of mini meadows. 110

Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 03/01/2025I'm fighting the same fight as we speak; struggling to finish a rather short, mundane document that, for all I know, will never be read entirely. 110
Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 03/01/2025The crucial question, then, is whether this came to your attention before or after publication. I'm getting better at not pre-critiquing drafts; better, but not good. 110
Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 03/01/2025I might agree. What do we mean by "own"? What's appealing about it? What are it's downsides? 000

Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 04/12/2024Fromm told me what to think about my individuality. :) Of course, all my ideas are necessarily informed by those I've read. But I try to synthesize and to hold them lightly and I am perpetually unpersuaded. When I'm forthcoming, I manage to anger everyone in the room, if that's any indication. :) 000
Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 03/12/2024That's comforting to hear. I've slung a lot of Perl, but it's been a long while. I periodically quest for a better scripting experience, but I never really find what I'm looking for. And really, scripting's pretty imperative by nature anyway (by my own definition). 110

Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 03/12/2024And even the Manifesto should be viewed as a reasonable starting point. If we only got the autonomous teams bit we could at least do Agile-in-a-Box like we did before Scrum was broadly productized and adopted. It *was* actually pretty good for a brief moment there. 110

Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I wouldn't say social media is the cause. I think it's built in. It's what society naturally does. But I think social media makes it far worse than previous communication channels. My mental analog is electrical. It's a short circuit. 010

Steve Jones @sjfloat.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Yes. Gall's Law would always have us aim for simplicity and complexify as actual need dictates. I really like starting with scala-cli.
