Another Ephestia elutella (Cacao Moth) candidate potted up from inside the garage a few nights ago! No idea why my garden seems to produce so many weird & wacky micros. I think there must actually be a micro moth factory somewhere in the garage…. #Teammoth

After 5 years effort, and 330+ species of micro, Ypsolopha parenthesella finally decided to show up last night 😅 The 8th species of Ypsolopha for the garden. Very quiet otherwise. #Teammoth

1. Fair Isle Day-3 and Day-4: day three was a write-off due to poor conditions. Began day-4 the day with a wee twitch to North Light for the Short-toed Lark. Didn’t see it. But we did manage to find Lanceolated Warbler in the compound. Scenes. 📷 @kevinshetland.bsky.social #UKBirding

A nice calm evening out there, and already an interesting selection of micros in to the traps: Beet Moth, Rusty-dot Pearl, Caloptilia stigmatella, Gypsonoma dealbana and Carcina quercana. #Teammoth

Hi Rob Today I went and found the only known Cornelian Cherry in my area (at least I think that’s what it is anyway!). Found some intriguing cut-outs and leaf damage. Don’t think it’s treitschkiella, but thought I’d run it by the you anyway! Cheers @vc28nature.bsky.social

I potted a tiny micro off the outside of the 40-W actinic trap in my garden last night and it turned out to be Anatrachyntis badia, the first record for Yorkshire (VCs 61-65). I must admit I'd never heard of it! #teammoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social @eggboxenvy.bsky.social

Some nice moths from last night, including one of the best-looking Mervs I’ve ever had! Hopefully more to come tonight…one of those Pesky-lemon Sallows would do nicely 😄 #Teammoth

Three more of the Dusky-lemon Sallow from the weekend. This smart & understated moth reminds me of the upperpart colour scheme of a particularly well-marked, darker looking (dark-breasted) Barn Owl: such a neat & distinctive look 👌 @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths #teammoth

An abundance of Phyllonorycter pastorella mines found today. 60+ quickly counted on the lower branches of the massive Willow, along the River Trent in Stoke. Must be hundreds more out of sight on the rest of the tree! #Teammoth

Temperature dipped into single figures last night, but that didn’t stop this Clancy’s Rustic from arriving! Think it might be the first for VC39, but been expecting it to arrive sooner or later. Also a hulk of a Clifden, my 4th garden record. #Teammoth

Hi Rob Found these today; no ‘practice’ puncture marks and holes ~4.5mm so I guess must be petryi?! Just double checking as it would be new for VC39! Cheers @vc28nature.bsky.social #Teammoth

Thanks to a tip off from another local moth-er, today I was able to enjoy finding some nice examples of Phyllonorycter comparella mines at Westport Lake, North Staffs. Over 20+ mines counted of this uncommon, but increasing species. Also several mines of Phyllocnistis unipunctella. #Teammoth

A stressful morning, with domestic chaos, rain & getting stung by a wasp whilst processing the trap 😑 Anyway. Finally got myself a NFG Straw Underwing. Worn and battered but I’ll take it. A sadly moribund Clifden on the ground by the trap. Another Pearly Underwing in much better nick. #Teammoth

Ran a trap in the rain last night, under shelter of a fold-up camping table. A good number of moths included a surprise Marbled White Spot, which seems to have a very small partial 2nd generation. Also 180 LYUs, 60 Vine’s, 3 Angle Shades, 2 Light Emerald, Oak Hook-tip & 3 Rush Veneer. #Teammoth

I found this mine of Phyllonorycter pastorella in Scarborough last week. Quite a small one (early stage?) but confirmed as pastorella by Rob Edmunds (thanks!). Probably more widespread in Yorkshire than current records suggest, and perhaps this record is the furthest north yet in the UK?! #Teammoth

Hi Rob I found this mine on some sort of Willow last week in Scarborough. I initially dismissed it as being too small for pastorella, but looking at it again, it has a nice strong central crease. So now wondering if it’s just a small, early mine of pastorella?! Thanks @vc28nature.bsky.social
