The only reason prisons are able to pay incarcerated individuals less than minimum wage is because the 13 amendment exempts punishment in prison from the prohibition on slavery. They're legal slaves. That doesn't apply to civil detention for immigration. It's blatantly unconstitutional.

Federal government employment is down by 26,000 since January -- a very clear DOGE effect, but nowhere close to the hundreds of thousand of job cuts we've heard about. Many of those workers are still on payroll, though, and therefore are still counted in the jobs numbers.

Claims: 1/ No signs of an acceleration in initial claims at present... they're slightly above year ago levels. An interesting contrast to the google trends search data which has definitely accelerated.
