this is also how i usually optimize the games i play. if i want RT, i keep RTGI on whenever possible while disabling RT reflections first, then shadows second, etc

i havent mentioned RT ambient occlusion bc its usually included and used with RTGI. its the 2nd biggest contributor the way i see it, it goes like this (from left to right, it goes biggest contributor to smallest contributor) RTGI - RTAO - RT Shadows - RT Reflections

RTGI doesnt have this effect. it can still be noisy and it certainly has a performance impact, but i truly believe it is the one RT setting worth being on (IF u can sacrifice the performance hit ofc)

but screen space global illumination isnt very good, and this comes from someone who used it on fallout 4 through ENB. it is INCREDIBLY rough with more noticeable break up than even screen space reflections. SSGI requires A LOT of info, and once it hits the edges of the screen... it looks weird

screen space reflections are alright, but can look GREAT when paired with cubemaps. another interesting way to do it is how teardown does it: to roughly put it, its a form of software RT. it shoots out a ray or 2 to see if a voxel stops a ray, creating shapes. color is then added from screen space

RT shadows and reflections are cool, but most implementations dont change the visuals as much as RTGI. hell, it does most of the heavy lifting in RT visuals with shadows, rasterization (for example: regular shadow maps + PCSS/CHS) is fantastic still.

even Fort Myers was a lil bit different, but it was still pretty similar to Naples idk, i think this is one of the reasons im so excited for gta 6. apparently, they have a town inspired by Naples/Ft. Myers so i would love to see how different it is from Vice City lmao

Cocoa Beach was different from them, same with Tampa. shit, going around Tampa was easier (and a lot less stressful) than Naples, despite being smack-dab in the middle of downtown (i visited the aquarium, 10/10 btw. had more than just fish)

i had spent so much time in Naples that, when i went to Miami, it was its own form of culture shock here in NoDak, regardless of how far you travel, culture doesn't change much. people are mostly the same from Beach on the west to Fargo on the east

crime became more rampant and there was A LOT of people coming in. i remember people complaining about Naples Pier and the beach being closed down during the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. there were always either tourists or people who JUST moved in this is the pier almost a year after Ian btw

Naples and Miami were pretty different for the longest time. one is where old people went to live their life in luxury, the other is where the young go to party, experience culture, etc by the time i moved out in early 2024, i saw Naples slowly morph into Miami
