We're approaching spooky season so the perfect time to reacquaint myself with 'Dead Set'. Still great fun!

In a fictionalised horror story a behind the scenes employee of UK Big Brother tv show is trapped in the diary room by flesh eating ghouls. Rather impressively for the time it roped in the then Big Brother presenter and many previous contestants from the show.

Recent re-listen. A bit more handwavy than I remembered but still some very effective Cosmic Horror going on that puts me in mind of Junji Ito. The description of the endlessly screaming.... whatever... at the end of the universe has always stayed with me.

In this poignant and emotional episode, Simon is joined by Dr. David Woodhead, the Associate Director of the Centre for Mental Health and a researcher for Durham University. David tells Simon all about his current academic study where he interviews survivors of the AIDS epidemic and asks them about personal objects of significance.
Through these objects, from pictures to pamphlets, stories of the 1980s and 1990s emerge of one of the largest public health events of modern times which had a profound impact on LGBTQ+ communities.

I know I need to work on fitness and general health etc but honestly just to be able to wake up not feeling (and looking!) like Ripley in the early scenes of Alien 3...

Ripley in the early scenes of Alien 3. She has survived the crash of the malfunctioning escape module but not without injury. Her left eye is badly bloodshot and her face bruised. As she came out of hyper sleep suddenly she will also be ill for some weeks.

Poor Reuben the kitten was stung by a wasp when I had him out in the garden yesterday. He's fine but got a fright and gave me a few decent scratches as I was holding him at the time. Lots of TLC last night and he was snuggled up to all of us while we watched a film. (Guilt! Woe! But he's fine).

It's unreasonably bothering me watching a dinner scene in an early episode of Enterprise that T'Pol is holding her fork in her right hand instead of her left hand., but one of the themes of this episode is her picking up "bad habits"....

A visiting Vulcan captain is completely appalled by T'Pol eating dinner holding her fork with her right hand.

Timewyrm 3 out the way then. Quite a traditional Who story and, imo, miles better than Exodus even if the connections to the Timewyrm plot feel very throwaway. Ace's '80s schoolgirl schtick is also a bit wearying given she's now meant to be in her 20s. Onward to Timewyrm 4...

Tonight's episode in the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'The Most Toys.' Data is apparently killed in a shuttlecraft accident, but he's actually been kidnapped by a narcissistic collector who blackmails Data into compliance. It's an uncomfortable and cruel episode that always stayed with me.

Data finds himself part of the evil Kiva's collection of unique items. From the TNG episode 'The Most Toys.'

Tonight's episode of TNG in the blu-ray rewatch was 'Hollow Pursuits.' A painfully shy member of the engineering crew struggles with his confidence and regularly blows off steam on the holodeck using simulacra of the senior crew. As an adult, it plays a little bit differently to how I remember...

Tonight's episode on the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'Tin man' and it's always been a favourite and I think is a nice example of what Star Trek is all about. The Enterprise brings an incredibly talented but unstable telepath on a first contact mission to an ancient living space-ship grieving its crew.

The living alien vessel Gomtuu is grieving its crew and is deliberately choosing to end its life via supernova. The Enterprise makes first contact. From the excellent TNG episode 'Tin Man.'

Tonight's episode on the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'Captain's Holiday'. Picard is hassled into taking a holiday on Risa, a planet that honestly holds as much appeal as having dinner at Hooters. Riker loves it, of course. How does any of it work? It is like a cult? 1/4

Tonight's episode on the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'Allegiance' and it's Star Trek meets Saw... or Cube. Well, not really (but wouldn't Cube be great?). Picard is abducted by aliens and trapped in a room with some bickering aliens: the pacifist, the menacing one, and the double agent! (Shhh). 1/4

Tonight's episode in the TNG blu-ray rewatch is 'Sins of the Father.' It's a strong episode for Worf and probably the best one of the Klingon-themed episodes. If I was asked what makes it different to the others, which largely do nothing for me, it's possibly that it takes things seriously. 1/3

On the Klingon homeworld, Worf challenges lies saying that his father was a traitor responsible for the massacre that orphaned Worf. From the TNG episode 'Sins of the Father.'

Tonight's episode in the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'The Offspring.' Data creates another android, calling her Lal, and she doesn't make it. It's a strong episode for Data and Lal is adorable, but the Federation, which ultimately causes her death, is so plainly in the wrong... 1/4

Data and his daughter, Lal, smell a flower. Lal is a very likeable character and works well with Data. It is clear that her death affects the crew. From the TNG episode 'The Offspring.'

Tonight's episode on the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'Yesterday's Enterprise' and it's one of the very best episodes of modern Trek and still holds up amazingly well. Loved it at the time and I loved it tonight! 1/6
