Didn't twig that Clayface is the guy who was in Dot & Bubble, which was probably my favourite of Doctor 15's run. I can't imagine the film being a huge success (niche character and no Batman?) but I'm looking forward to it!

Just back from a desperate "I might as well go and look just in case." The aforementioned milk-only hot chocolate and no horlicks at all. But it's ok I guess because they have mango bubble tea...

John Stewart is probably my least favourite of the classic Green Lanterns (only Geoff Johns seemed to bring him to life for me) so I was never going to be rushing to see Lanterns, but anyone seen it and want to recommend it? (I have heard what it does with Hal, which uurgh..).

A much needed restful Saturday just pottering around around the house, capped (ho ho) off with the first episode of The Tripods. I got to try my first ever curry watching this on broadcast a million years ago.
A sinister alien tripod stands before a happy crowd of what appears to be pre-industrial peasants. It has one of them in a metal tentacle. In truth it is 2089 and humanity has been conquered by an alien race. From the BBC tv series The Tripods.

An excerpt from the Doctor Who NA novel Timewyrm: Revelation. When did Ace "get off" with an alien?? Is this about the cheetah people or am I missing something from the other televised stories?
An excerpt from the Doctor Who NA novel Timewyrm: Revelation, that has Ace reflecting on her experiences. It says: "Midge was dead, of course. Bad news to think like he was still around. Her friends had been killed by aliens, her past was a game for aliens to play with, she'd even got off with an alien. That would've made a good headline."

Poor Reuben the kitten was stung by a wasp when I had him out in the garden yesterday. He's fine but got a fright and gave me a few decent scratches as I was holding him at the time. Lots of TLC last night and he was snuggled up to all of us while we watched a film. (Guilt! Woe! But he's fine).

It's unreasonably bothering me watching a dinner scene in an early episode of Enterprise that T'Pol is holding her fork in her right hand instead of her left hand., but one of the themes of this episode is her picking up "bad habits"....
A visiting Vulcan captain is completely appalled by T'Pol eating dinner holding her fork with her right hand.

Timewyrm 3 out the way then. Quite a traditional Who story and, imo, miles better than Exodus even if the connections to the Timewyrm plot feel very throwaway. Ace's '80s schoolgirl schtick is also a bit wearying given she's now meant to be in her 20s. Onward to Timewyrm 4...
The cover of the Doctor Who New Adventures novel 'Timewyrm: Apocalypse' by Nigel Robinson. Something that looks like Brundlefly is rearing out of a green ocean. Ace is standing in a futuristic vehicle with an odd look on her face, like she's mildly annoyed or she has a headache and can't be bothered. A strange looking blue humanoid in comically OTT rags is also just standing there on the vehicle. The book is a lot better than this suggests.

Overall, not a favourite but that's just because of the tone. I like Kivas not being handwaved away as a Ferengi. (They're not murderers). Brent Spiner is excellent and this is a strong episode for him. Just not a very nice one.
The murderer and thief, Kivas, is held captive in the Enterprise brig on his way to prison. All his possessions have been confiscated and returned to their rightful owners. He has nothing. Not even his freedom. But he hurt our friend. From the TNG episode 'The Most Toys.'

This could have been something that was picked up on in future Data story (e.g. 'Brothers', 'Descent'. Even 'In Theory' might have been interesting) but it's kind of abandoned after this. A shame perhaps, although part of me wants it to go away.
Data puts a weapon at an unrepentant Kivas and has to decide whether to let him go, which will almost certain result in more people being hurt, or fire the weapon. Data fires the weapon mid transport, but it's left ambiguous why. was it purely a logical decision or something else? And why does Data choose to lie about it? From the TNG episode 'The Most Toys.'

Kivas killing Varria with a weapon designed to be an agonising death is a horrible moment, and we're left with our friend Data seemingly having chosen to kill an unrepentant murderer to stop him hurting other people. Was it purely logic, or something else? Grim.
In a horrible moment, Kivas decides to shoot his colleague, Varria, at close range after she tries to help Data escape. It is a cruel weapon designed to give a very painful death. From the TNG episode 'The Most Toys.'

Data's compassion is used against him by someone who who seems to be incredible wealthy but doesn't know the value of anything. Watching it today, he's one of those awful billionaires who don't give a crap about any of us and knows they'll walk away just fine. Good performance from Saul Rubinek

Tonight's episode in the TNG blu-ray rewatch was 'The Most Toys.' Data is apparently killed in a shuttlecraft accident, but he's actually been kidnapped by a narcissistic collector who blackmails Data into compliance. It's an uncomfortable and cruel episode that always stayed with me.

So, overall a low-stakes episode but an interesting one and what's going on with AI right now gives it more of an edge than it did on broadcast.

I also find it interesting that while Riker mentions a protocol being violated about simulating crew members, Geordi is quick to correct him and say there's no such rule. Do we operate entirely on trust when it comes to the holodeck?? There was even a line about Barclay spanking holo-Wesley!
Troi is shocked by a tarty holo version of herself in Barclay's holodeck program which includes his interpretations of members of the crew. From the TNG episode 'Hollow Pursuits.'

There was a lot made at the time of this being like 'addiction' to video games but here in 2026 it feels a bit more like people using AI. He's even more willing to use a holo generated counsellor instead of talking to a real one. Fascinating!
On the holodeck Barclay is much more confident talking to Counsellor Troi than in real life. From the TNG episode 'Hollow Pursuits.'
