I’m not saying that the markets aren’t a hit bubbly, but this isn’t a like for like comparison: 1. Price earnings ratios for the concentrated tech cos are good, whereas say in the DotCom bubble they were non existent. 2. Railroads really were 1 industry. The tech cos are super diverse.

I studied Electrical Engineering graduating nearly 40 years ago. It added a year and a Masters because we studied a little marketing, sociology, business, accounting and did a series of group projects spanning 3 years. It changed my outlook immeasurably for the better.

A family member for an MRI scan result from the hospital on the NHS App. It was left to a physio to interpret it and they were dismissive in a way that indicated they were lost. So I fed the obtuse result into Claude and asked for a short PDF with diagrams that it had to check and not hallucinate.

There are a lot of legs in this approach. If we can move to using ternary or binary models and using appropriately optimised processors (I don’t know if they exist yet), inference cost will collapse. Organisations can then afford air gapped AI at some scale.
