Sci/fi WIP The Road to the Stars (The Möbius Sequence part ∞) reaches 5000 words! So maybe only 100,000 to go. I can do that. Most of the words will be “and” and “the” and stuff, right? #scifi

I was lucky enough to see the solar eclipse the other day. Here’s one of the photos I took, showing the solar corona, and (the red dot at nine o’clock), a solar prominence. It was a completely awe-inspiring experience. For a moment, I forgot everything and just thought, THERE’S A HOLE IN THE SKY!

Delighted to spot this blue plaque on a church wall in York this weekend. She’s someone I would have loved to meet. 🏳️‍🌈

More “Narnia Door” shenanigans - just nearby is the lamppost that may or may not have inspired C. S. Lewis. It’s cool to imagine he and Tolkien walking by, deep in conversation.

It’s also flanked by some equally pagan Pan-like fawns - supposedly the inspiration for Mr Tumnus. I read and loved these books as a boy, and I had no conception of them being a Christian parable. In some way, with these symbols, there was clearly a lot of Paganism going on too. Which I like.

A picture of the so-called “Narnia Door” in Oxford, that would have been very familiar to C. S. Lewis. This carving is supposedly the inspiration for Aslan - but it’s clearly a (very pagan) Green Man.

Sometimes you just need to keep your eyes open if you need ideas for a fantasy yarn. This is the “Doomstone” in the crypt of York Minster. It depicts a cauldron and three mouths of hell into which the souls of the damned are being pushed and tortured by fearsome demons.
