It’s quite simple… We had frictionless trade, it was as easy to sell and buy from the EU countries as it was from within our shores. We left frictionless and opted for trade with friction. Friction means red-tape Red-tape means delays and extra costs. Customers do not like that and go elsewhere.

Voters loathed the Tory party when they booted them out in 2024.They really needed to shake off their disgrace with humility and better ideas. They haven’t. They’ve doubled down. More Brexit, more austerity, more anti-immigration ugliness, more tedious arrogance… and no good reason to vote for them.

No such pivot is happening at the current conference. The Tories have come to Birmingham calling for a return to orthodoxy, with similar lines about cutting benefits and regulation. Even so, they seem trapped by the same contradictions
- pledging to cut benefits, but not the winter fuel payments and triple lock on pensions that go to their voters.
There is no "hug-a-hoodie" moment in Birmingham. The Conservative Party is not indicating that it has changed or seeking to broaden its appeal. It is doing the opposite: it is a party returning to its core, restating all the old ideas voters have rejected but louder.

In 2009 The Labour Government planned for a new fleet of Nuclear reactors, which the incoming Conservative Government scrapped in 2010 It’s interesting that the Conservatives are now, 16 years later, saying we need more Nuclear reactors. The last and only time the triple lock (🔒🔒🔒), was suspended, was under a recent Tory government in 2022 / 2023. If Labour don’t get in or figure in a coalition, then it will likely be a Tory / Reform coalition and the 🔒🔒🔒 will go, and they will also likely cut pensions.
