This is one of the big ways "both sides are 'actually' the same" at least as far as establishment democrats go. Look at how much surveillance has been pushed by democrats in office. ID verification is 100% about surveillance, its not remotely for "protecting the children."

Regular reminder to watch your credit reports and preferably lock them, it's free! IDScan wasn't hacked. They took a business decision to keep your drivers license, which these days includes biometric detail uncrypted. It was accessed and 150-millions US and Canadian drivers licenses are out there

Even if you - for some reason - trusted the site/service that you’re using with your ID info, all the verification is outsourced and (surprise!) still incredibly vulnerable to being stolen Age verification isn’t too hard for teens to game the system and just puts everyone’s info at risk

I'd argue the addition of a credit-card verification is a much better option, if it's what I expect, because a credit card number can be revoked at any time if compromised. Nonetheless the paradigm remains unacceptable development overall that fails to protect youth and imposes on everyone's privacy

The ONLY people who want "age verification" laws are those who want the info to sell, and also to harass and censor people that don't to a company line. BTW, the Internet is beyond dynamic, so what's going to happen is that millions and billions of websites will pop up and ignore the laws.

Also for those of you going "Just give 'em your ID in order to use..." fuck no. That's the VERY first rule of cyber security is to not give up hyper personal info or biometrics. Now these "age verification" laws will fail because guess what, cyber crime is still a thing, and so are lawsuits.
