TCM has a future at Skydance, which is good news. And it will be part of the film group, which suggests a similar structure to its niche at Warner Bros Discovery after Scorsese, Spielberg and PTA saved it from Zaslav's cost-cutting. In the short term, all is well. But deadline.com/2026/10/turn...

This is, essentially, a more sophisticated version of the Jesus myth theory, in that it accepts the historicity of a person named Jesus but denies the possibility of attributing anything to him.

Can you explain to me how we know with such certainty that Mark 10 and Matthew 5 are not reflective of Jesus's original, unaltered teachings? How do you actually apply this to the Gospel texts without falling into arbitrary skepticism?

The Gospels are by far the most sex-negative part of the Christian Bible.

This is the popular interpretation, but I think it's backwards. Uncompromising chastity comes from the teachings of Jesus himself, Paul was just trying to reframe it in a way that was workable for everyday life.

And by the numbers most players will agree with you! I was unhappy with the way OSRS evolved, but now that there are other options for players like me, I don’t need to worry about it any more and people can just play the version they like.

It’s a Ship of Theseus. Yes, very little content has been outright removed, but so much has been changed or added over time that it’s become radically different from the ‘07 revision it was based on.

OSRS at this point is a completely different thing from RS2. If you enjoy it, more power to you, but it doesn’t hold any appeal to me anymore.

I do think the episode at Cowslip’s warren does show a bit of Adams’s conservatism: the culture there is depicted as decadent and a little effeminate; Cowslip’s modern, lyrical poetry is contrasted unfavorably with the folk-heroic tales of the Sandleford rabbits.
130
Silentio @silentio.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Each is very impressive in its own way. Cowslip’s warren is artistically “advanced” in a way other rabbits can’t even comprehend, and Efrafa is a masterwork of sophisticated social organization. But both are not worth the bargain.

Silentio @silentio.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Cowslip’s warren and Efrafa are mirror images of one another. The one is based on a fatalistic acceptance of death and the other on an obsessive fear of death.

I’m not always a fan of very war-centric civ mods because I don’t think the combat system necessarily has the depth to carry a game by itself. However the Barbarians mod for Warlords is great

Melville takes a moment towards the beginning of Billy Budd to digress about how predreadnaught warships are so ugly
Nevertheless, to anybody who can hold the Present at its worth without being inappreciative of the Past, it may be forgiven, if to such an one the solitary old hulk at Portsmouth, Nelson's Victory, seems to float there, not alone as the decaying monument of a fame incorruptible, but also as a poetic reproach, softened by its picturesque-ness, to the Monitors and yet mightier hulls of the European ironclads. And this not altogether because such craft are unsightly, unavoidably lacking the symmetry and grand lines of the old battleships, but equally for other reasons.
