I hate to say it, but this headline made me laugh. Just once, but still.

Star Tribune lower half front page headline: UnitedHealth mistakenly declares eight doctors dead.

In the US right now, our daily lives are dictated to us by the kleptocratic avarice of oligarchs. They steal everything they can from us, every single day. Something like the pre-Revolution Homespun Movement would be *extremely challenging* to accomplish. But just *imagine* us doing it...

Thinking about Canada's Elbows Up boycotts of US goods. That is being effective, powerful, and it rises from the people.

Similarly, Amazon warehouses are unregulated prostitution without sex. Selling your body in circumstances that can at any moment turn dangerous, with no protections, and getting blamed if you get hurt.

There are many things to be incredibly upset about. Like the fact that That Fucking Guy is in severe mental decline and can't speak coherently. But it's pretty clear he didn't call for nuking California. He just can't talk, and spliced two thoughts together. Now, the crowd cheering? That's fucked.

So I have learned that my method of connection is like a USB-C cable. I can connect with a LOT of people, and there are dongles and fixes to help us. But if somebody else is a grounded electrical outlet, we are gonna have trouble connecting. The plugs sure as shit don't line up. 7/fin

How do I know whether I am sympathetic or not when I don't know what you fucking said? I show listening, hearing, sympathy, empathy, by clarifying and sharing back. Apparently, this is not compatible with some people! 6/?

Sitting in silence when I didn't understand a point made, or when I find a fact stated to be not what I recall, demolishes ALL empathy. I do t have any patience for, let alone empathy for, anything said after the point of confusion. 5/?

I understand other people by asking questions. By sharing back an experience of mine that I find analogous, to indicate empathy. Points I do not understand I reflect back, saying, "this is what I heard, is this what you mean?" I make comparisons to other situations to form an idea of scale. 4/?

What is expected is that by sitting silently I will take in and resonate with what X is saying. That in silence I will comprehend their feelings. That does not work for me. For me to comprehend, I must engage. 3/?

I *could not comprehend* what the therapist meant by "just be present and sit with what X says." Just... sit still and do nothing? Wait my turn?WTF? My wife explained it to me after therapy, and now I understand what I am supposed to do. *But it doesn't do for me what the therapist expects.* 2/?

Dark City (movie) Agatha Christe's Nemesis (All the Miss Marple novels, actually. I don't know why people think those are cozy, they are disturbing as hell.) If you can abide Kevin Spacey's presence, The Usual Suspects. The Big Sleep (the movie and the book. I love that the plot is a mess.)

I have been listening to the audiobook. Steven Weber performs it and he is absolutely fantastic. All the New England accents, all the complex ways of emphasis King uses in his writing, just great. But *listening* to Every. Single. Slur. characters think and say? Holy shit.
