New Mexico has the opportunity to close a loophole that could allow data centers run on dirty power to further pollute our state and increase water scarcity. Tell your lawmakers to support The Microgrid Oversight Act at sc.org/microgrid-act
SB 235 The Microgrid Oversight Act:

Closes a dangerous loophole that exempts data centers from following our clean energy laws

Brings so-called “microgrids” under the same standards that govern our state electric utilities

Requires increasing amounts of clean energy to power data centers

Requires big tech to report water use, energy use, and pollution

Tell your state representative to hold data centers accountable:

sc.org/microgrid-actBig Tech’s Data Centers:

Use enormous amounts of power. ONE proposal would require TWICE the power that PNM produces every year. These grids are not “micro” at all!

Use enormous amounts of water, enough to supply almost 200,000 individual New Mexicans, or one bottle of water per AI prompt

All while New Mexico is experiencing disastrous water scarcity that leads to record-breaking droughts and wildfires

Tell your state representative to hold data centers accountable:

sc.org/microgrid-actIf this Loophole is not Closed, then Microgrids:

Could be powered solely by dirty energy

Could effectively erase all gains New Mexico made to reduce climate pollution

Could cause your utility rates to go up. A study found that Ohio’s rates increased 15 percent since data centers were introduced there

Tell your state representative to hold data centers accountable:

sc.org/microgrid-actTell State Lawmakers: Pass SB235 The Microgrid Oversight Act

New Mexico cannot afford to give loopholes to big tech

Our utility rates are too high

Our water is too scarce

Our state cannot stand more disaster-causing pollution

Tell your state representative to hold data centers accountable:

sc.org/microgrid-act
