Aunt Mira mentioned nazi soldiers in Revúca before, but apparently, initially pro-soviet Slovak forces were still in control. Apparently, Aunt Mira did not find it at all ominous that the pro-soviet Slovaks had herded a large group of anti-soviet Ukrainian refugees into a walled, guarded building.

Until yesterday, I wasn't even aware of the Slovak National Uprising. Only by looking at the dates and places Aunt Mira mentions in the stories about her experiences as a little girl do I suddenly realize that she was in the middle of truly momentous events, and these odd stories begin to make sense

Até ontem, eu nem sabia da existência da Revolta Nacional Eslovaca. Ao analisar as datas e os lugares que Tia Mira menciona, de repente percebo que ela, quando pequeninha, estava no meio de acontecimentos verdadeiramente marcantes, e suas histórias curiosas começam a fazer sentido.

Many people asked in the comments why we ignore air raid alerts and are outside of shelters during Russian attacks. The answer is simple: alerts last for hours many months in a row. We need to work and live. The world continues watching a live broadcast of Ukrainians being killed.

The Russians definitely deliberately targeted the INKOM business center in central Kyiv - they had a recon drone overhead with its camera trained right on the building right at the moment of the strike. Four civilians were killed and between seven and 11 wounded, including a teenager.
