The moment a drone or missile whistles nearby, 🇺🇦 women instantly become a shield for their children—covering them with their bodies, holding them tightly, covering their eyes and ears, comforting them. Every Ukrainian mother, sister, & grandmother is always ready to become a shelter. Thread 1/5🧵

Ukrainian city of Oleshky in Kherson region under occupation: people in Brussels call on Europe to act, not stay silent.

War is always saturated with the most negative moments, which I try to smooth out for the world by showing and telling about life in Ukraine. I don't lay claim to being the best writer or the voice of Ukraine; I write the best I can, and often the way not only my mind, but also my soul, tells me to.

Right now, I'm just restraining myself as much as possible not to write a lot of... a lot of bad words here. …this is the heart of Ukraine, Kyiv today, people were just saving their lives, climbing out of a second-floor window, these are the first minutes after the russian strike on the building!

russian bastards are just mocking the residents of Ukraine in plain sight of everyone who can see and hear in this world. I don't even know how to describe all these horrible videos from the cities of my country-in this case, the heart of Ukraine, which the russians are working hard to destroy.

...it was yesterday, on the coast of Odesa; Ukrainians here know how to distract themselves from the sounds of war. Just a melody, just the sound of the sea, just like-minded people around you who simply want to love and live in peace with themselves and with everyone else on our beautiful planet.

…Another evacuation of elderly residents from the town of Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region. In these footage clips, 79-year-old Ella Khvostenko picks up a note dropped to her by soldiers of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

In the village of Pytomnyk in the Kharkiv region, a russian strike UAV attacked a civilian car carrying a man and a woman as they headed to their village. As a result of the strike, the vehicle caught fire. The man behind the wheel died at the scene. The woman managed to escape.

Another Night in Kharkiv. All these Ukrainians that you can see in the video, and those who remained off-screen, lost their homes tonight-homes where they had planned to spend the winter that will soon arrive here.

…the russians did this yesterday morning, and yes, they don't care about any red lines. It was a residential building, and a small number of people who hadn't evacuated yet lived here. Also, this apartment building housed the office of the Proliska humanitarian mission.

... evacuation from the city of Kramatorsk. Ukrainians are leaving the city, some already have, some are still thinking about it, and others are finding a suitable city according to their finances and capabilities. Winter is approaching, and for us in Ukraine, this is the most difficult period.

The Ukrainian city of Siverskodonetsk is located in the Luhansk region. Before the full-scale russian invasion, it was a modern, green, and developed city with a population of about 100,000 residents-just think about that figure...

...And Kramatorsk again. And again Ukrainians are sitting outside their destroyed homes. Today, the russians dropped four FAB-250 aerial bombs on the city. As a result of the attack, a 58-year-old man was killed, and there are also injured people.

The Ukrainian town of Maryinka was located in the Donetsk region. Before the arrival of russian troops, it was a cozy, green, and peaceful town with a population of about 10,000 people. This is what it means to neighbor russia...

… right here, in these houses, peacefully sleeping people were killed by the russians. Ukrainian volunteer from Kharkiv, Oleksandr Pidhornyi, shows and tells us about this, having visited the Ukrainian city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region today.

16 apartments burned down. Just imagine how many people - in just one single night, in just one single building! - lost their homes and belongings. The familiar phrase "everything is in your hands" has lost its meaning here in Ukraine. Here, life is in the hands of war.

The house was shaking. I grabbed my cat and ran out of the apartment in just my bathrobe and slippers. All of us, along with our neighbors and children, first ran into the stairwell…”- says Iryna, a resident of the damaged building.

Kramatorsk. The city center is heavily destroyed due to russian shelling. Life is increasingly difficult to call human, a life where people simply have nowhere and no way to live anymore. More and more families are making the hardest yet most important decision - to evacuate.

We cannot let people forget this, forget what the russians did in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The russians literally destroy everything they touch. What you are seeing is direct proof of how my people would continue to live in their cities without the russians-peacefully and calmly.

66 cats, 15 dogs, and three people - all together, they left the Ukrainian city of Sloviansk. A couple ran a family-type animal shelter where they took in dozens of homeless animals and cared for them every day despite the danger.

It’s another evacuation - unfortunately, a routine one by now. It’s hard to count how many people are leaving on their own or escaping with the help of the police and volunteers from dangerous towns and villages, especially in the Donetsk region. This happens every day.

The video shows Kramatorsk, one of the Ukrainian cities. Local residents see every day what russian soldiers are doing here with their attacks and shelling. Those who could not endure such a life left the city for their safety and can only watch from afar what their hometown looks like today...

The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut - before the russians weren't there, and after they came. Now the city's name is rarely mentioned; it has faded from the news cycle. Today, other cities in my country are fighting for their survival, just like the locals who live in them.

Ukraine... evacuation... In a settlement where not a single surviving house remained, a single resident stayed behind, an elderly, blind woman who could not move on her own. The road ran across a field uphill, but the police did not stop, overcoming the difficult and dangerous path.

A reminder to the rest of the world: we are still here, in Ukraine. russians continue to take the lives of Ukrainians literally every day, every hour. Year after year. And none of this would be happening if the invaders had stayed in their own homes and had no desire to come into someone else's.

The world is a strange thing. As soon as we let something into our lives, it always gains momentum and scale. We didn't invite war here, but the russians forced it to our doorstep. Yes, this is a human world, and we Ukrainians are right at the epicentre of these events.

Ukraine. Today, the sky does not belong to birds. An ordinary day. The sound of an engine overhead, and beneath it, peaceful streets... peaceful people. Seconds to react, to take cover from the blast and shrapnel. Every shelter has become a home, and every survived day, a small yet still a victory.
