It needs to happen ASAP. For Irish Unity to happen we need All Ireland politics. Social Dems and Labour are in prime position to merge and absorb SDLP. Another major all Ireland party. It would be amazing and take away what's left of Green support for FF.

@ivanabacik.bsky.social it is surely time for a merger between Social Democrats and Labour Party? Before Aontu and Independent merge and overtake the left. If you want to take the iniative I suggest you create a 3 way merger with the SDLP in the North. Then you'd have a major All Ireland party

I thought the analysis of SF Ard Fheis was fairly shallow and non substantive. Michael McKernan had his SDLP glasses on and it never got down to anything interesting. Sarah Creighton was very good though and interesting to listen to.

Labour were far too far to the economic right by being a minority party in a right wing government. However being part of a large 32 county party with 22 TDs and 8 MLAs would mean being strong enough to be a full partner in a left wing government

@fotoole.bsky.social is it the opertune moment for a merger between Social Democrats, Labour Party & the Social Democratic & Labour Party? Given that FF are in a weakened state, such a 32 county party would strip further legitimacy from them & create a strong Irish left progressive all Ireland party

are all aimed at this single SD-LP candidate. If that candidate wins its a double bonus for the left. - 1 seat from FFG and +1 left government. A 2 seat differential. With too much choice its like a hot water pipe with no foam insulation, heat disipates in all directions.

Below are a list of all the constituencies without either a Labour or SocDem TD. In many there isn't enough of a structure or enough activists to get any elected. However combine there resources behind a single merged party candidate then its possible. Now imagine its down to transfers and SF trfs

for your favourite then you do your transfers to the other. Transfers full strength and really simple. The right are too smart to be in 4 or 5 parties. Unless you match them you'll lose in all the last seats where its tight

It worked because they were behind a single candidate, for a single elected position. It couldn't not work. If FF and FG had better candidates tge elimination of one spuld have helped the other immensely as in GE24. The right are organised into 2 big coherent blocks. Each constituency you vote

So if there was a 32 county Social Democratic and Labour Party then all 3 identities are in the name. Easier than trying to agree on constitutencies, plus voters might not take your instruction. 2 big block parties is easy to understand. Hence the massive seat bonus of FFG

This meant that on some of their lowest ever first preferences they got 50% of TDs. To win the left have to replicate this. You need 2 big left parties, not 1 big one and lots of other small ones (people don't transfer all the way down). If you really want something revolutionary then you'd merge

Hi Una, I really hope we see a merging of the smaller leftwing parties. A SocDem/Labour merger would create a new progressive left party of 22TDs. FF-FG had massive success in GE24 because of high transfers. Simple for their voters, vote your favourite the use all transfers to the other.

Carlow-Kilkenny one to keep an eye out for. The 2 returning FF TDs are heavily odds on; the other 3 seats are open. If SF are to be the largest party they probably need 2 here. If FG win 2 here they're likely doing well overall. And a must win for the Soc Dems if they're to make a breakthrough.
