Excited to share our new manuscript! Why do people with Bosma #arhinia microphthalmia syndrome (BAMS) not form noses? We show that #iPSCs from these patients are less able to form cranial placode cells, one of the cell types that make up the nose. www.cell.com/stem-cell-re...

Cranial placode differentiation defect in individuals born without a nose
Xue and colleagues show that iPSCs from Bosma syndrome (BAMS) individuals have a reduced capacity of differentiation into cranial placode cells and the subsequent lens and olfactory lineages. These ce...

Very sad news. Gail Martin (1944-2026) was a figure in developmental biology. She pioneered the field of ES cells. A great colleague, a friend and a lovely person.

Thank you lab for the #TeachersDay card! I'm super impressed with the drawing. There's a fish in the flask! What is this experiment?! I hope all of you learn lots of things in your time here and may all your experiments work 😊

Interesting talk from @miskalab.bsky.social . Why do some animals (and plants) receive RNA from the environment? Why don't humans have the ability? Would make #RNA delivery a lot easier if we can just eat it and it gets into our cells.

Occasionally I go stare in awe at our rich tropical #biodiversity. Here are some animals we found today in the intertidal zone. Sand dollar, many hermit crabs, anemone, starfish (photo by Ajay), jellyfish (not pictured).

Happy Chinese New Year! Lo-hei with the lab. It's a tradition to mix this salad together as a group. Brings good luck for the year! Also, my first post on bluesky. I heard this is where the cool scientists hang out now. #CNY
