i feel like decent commentary could sell the “this format is awesome actually, look at all the variety in gameplay we’re getting here” enough to win over the irregular tourney viewer

this is actually a very common concept in japanese culture. it is known as “ライブ・アクション・ロールプレイング”, which roughly translates to “live-action role-playing” or “larping”

+1, the mechanic’s pretty central to Dream Askew / Dream apart (as well as other Belonging outside Belonging games?? It showed up in Jay Dragon’s Sleepaway as well) and it’s worded exactly like your example

sendou.ink update - August 30, 2026 This availability tool has been in my plans for a long time, really excited to finally get it out. It's inspired by my own experiences running teams and the difficulty with scheduling to get consistent practice. Give it a go with your Riptide team! #sendouink

@ecfriedman.com have you ever come across this lyric game? riverhousegames.itch.io/the-treasure... I got it in a bundle a while back, but it stood out to me for doing something similar to DIE RPG by making a game that itself is a bit of a deconstruction of TTRPG and OCR tropes. Super fun read!

Today Gail found out (via a vile misreading of her work) about how Valnet buys up media sites with sterling reputations, guts them of the people who made them shine, & turns them into hollow zombies vomiting clickbait. In case you too haven’t heard why cool kids say “RIP Polygon” (& so many more)

this rotation produced unprecedented amounts of cope in me

Comic based on the work of @shenanigansen.bsky.social

Panel 1:
"My tent failed to OHKO recently"
Pictured are 2 inklings, one is firing with a tenta brella, the other is just standing there while taking a non lethal 85.0 damage hit to the face

Panel 2:
"I was pretty bummed out about it"
My splatoon character frowning. A blue frowny face with a small bar is to the right of them

Panel 3:
"But i think the guy I hit was probably more happy to live than i am sad to miss the pick. The total happiness in the world increased"
My splatoon character smiling. Next to the blue sad bar is a yellow smiling bar that's significantly taller.

Panel 4:
"So, whatever"
My character gets splatted by the guy they didnt manage to OHKO

To be clear: If “TTRPGs” in your scholarship, teaching, & outreach start & end with D&D — or even GMed games — that’s a skill issue you need to reconsider. You’re gonna get left behind.
