What is the movie that came out before you were born that you've watched the most? Every time there was a substitute in math class 😮‍💨

I have been avoiding currently airing 2026 kdramas because I got burned by some stinkers in the spring that looked promising but fizzled out… …but it looks like I can watch #FourHandsTwoSonatas now, yes?

I’m on episode 8 of #WeAreAllTryingHere and Hwang Dong-man steps out of his catering job to check his phone and I thought “in any other show that would be a smoke break” and then it hit me that in any other show Hwang Dong-man would be a chainsmoker, and probably half his friends too. Oh, kdramas.

I was wondering why the hangout in #WeAreAllTryingHere is called Agit. Clearly a loan word. I wondered if it was a mistranslation of the French word for “act.” Nope, it’s from Russian and it’s commonly used in Korean to mean “a cozy hangout place.” Well, that makes sense.

I’ve seen cats bite toothbrushes but Jinx is the only cat I know who steals the travel-sized toothpaste, carries it to her favorite rug, and treats it like a cat toy: batting it around and biting it.

My wife and I are looking for another kdrama to watch together. Tonight we watched episode 1 of #Doubt She: Well I didn’t love that but I’m willing to watch more if you liked it. Me: I was about to say the same to you. She: I guess we’re watching a different one next time.

Today I went to a conference for language teachers at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It’s one of the prettiest college campuses in my state. Today is Homecoming at nearby high schools, and lots of teens are dressed up for the dance and taking photos together. And I saw a fat, sassy squirrel.

Buttons in blue with maize colored text in many languages.

I don’t know which is more unrealistic, a watch that names your emotions, or 8 college friends who still hang out - and work together! - in their 40s. But hey, I’ve seen stupider premises (body swap? time travel?) so I’ll wade through the fake to get to the very real emotions in #WeAreAllTryingHere.

Last night Jinx meowed so much I thought she must be in trouble. I got out of bed, turned on the light to see what was wrong, and realized she was just excited about a moth. She was delighted I turned on the light.

I was going to watch a movie tonight but after I baked these lemon-ginger drop scones for tomorrow’s potluck, I only had time for half an episode of a kdrama. So apparently I’m now watching #WeAreAllTryingHere. I’ll report back how it goes.

I actually read Icebreaker and another book in the series. I thought it was okay. It felt like a YA novel except for the explicit sex. A very female gaze, to the point where the ML was so unrealistically perfect in every way that I got bored.

The cover of Icebreaker by Hannah Grace shows an illustration of a woman in a skating costume and a man in a hockey uniform standing on ice skates and smiling at each other.

If Netflix really wanted its own Heated Rivalry, it would be making a lesbian romance about two WNBA players.

My right eye has been randomly twitching all day. I saw myself in the mirror and thought “I look like a kdrama villain.” If I were, who would I be trying to murder now? 1) My ex’s new lover 2) My chaebol grandpa 3) The lawyer investigating my corruption 4) Whoever stops in front of my white truck

No cat so happy as the cat who has spurned all his cat beds - the comfy ones, the cute ones, the heated ones, the expensive ones, the high-up ones, the tucked-away ones - in favor of curling up in a literal box of trash.

Tonight I watched the 1959 French film #LesLiaisonsDangereuses. The director, Roger Vadim, cast his own wife in the role of the faithful woman who is seduced by Valmont. What I liked about this version: the closeness and complicity of Madame de Merteuil and Valmont, the score by Thelonious Monk.

Jinx smashed my mug in the middle of the night and then wanted to play with me when I got up to investigate the noise. She learned: make some noise when you’re bored at midnight. I learned: don’t leave anything on the counter ever.

Fun question!! If you had a new-to-kdrama friend, which dramas would you assign for homework? 🤔 For extra data, add the year you started watching (I’m guessing the overlaps might be watching-age dependent)

Tonight I watched the 1989 remake of #LesLiaisonsDangereuses titled Valmont. What a misleading title. He had hardly any screen time. What this film got right: the humor of the original novel. What it got wrong: the main characters. They should be more sexy at the start, more devastated at the end.

Poster for the movie Valmont shows Annette Bening as Madame de Merteuil and Colin Firth as Vicomte de Valmont. She is wearing a white shift in a bathtub. He is smiling down at her.

I agree with 90% of what Alisa said. But also, one of the last shows I watched before becoming obsessed with kdramas was the Spanish teen drama Élite. I dropped it because there was too much casual sex. I don’t demand sexless TV. But what makes me love kdrama is the slow burn before we get there.

Poster for tv show Elite on Netflix shows a dozen teens wearing school uniforms and looking unnaturally sexy.

I haven’t yet seen the 2026 kdrama #TheScandal, but I’m willing to bet its sex scenes are less explicit than the 1976 French film based on #LesLiaisonsDangereuses that I watched tonight. Une femme fidele is available on YouTube in the v.o. with the naked bits blurred out.

I have a 12 year old student who has been carrying Game Changer around at school for independent reading and I have decided pretend I don’t know it’s smut. When I was 12 I couldn’t take my smut to school because the covers gave them away.

The cover of Game Changer by Rachel Reid shows an illustration of two men fully clothed making eye contact in a smoothie shop. The cover gives no hint of the explicit sex scenes inside.

Cover of Warrior’s Woman by Johanna Lindsey shows a man clutching a woman with one arm and a sword with the other. He is naked from the waist up, revealing tanned muscles. She seems to like it.
