I think having to explain the necessity of weeding in library collection development is a rite of passage for all librarians at some point in our careers. 📚📜

Wichita State University is dumping library books. Some faculty want to know why
University officials say the library has been weeding out materials that are outdated or have not been checked out in over a decade. But faculty say they should have been consulted first.

I literally dreamed about SQL syntax last night. On the plus side, I feel like I studied for my test in my sleep. On the bad side, I did wake up feeling more stressed and tired for this test today than I should've. #softwareengineering #student

I was very happy to inform a video game loving kid that there are not just Minecraft graphic novels, but also Animal Crossing manga. The look on his face was incredible. He practically skipped to the section where the book was.

During the formula shortage in 2022, my son needed speciality formula that was near impossible to find. Friends, family, and even strangers on Reddit were sending us canisters for free to help. Mr. Rogers was right - find the helpers. They'll be there, even now when it feels like it's hopeless.

Eraserhead was one of the most moving pieces of art I've ever seen, especially since my son was an infant the first time I saw it. Ironically, I just started watching Twin Peaks for the first time two days ago. I'll savor the show even more now in passing.

Had the pleasure of working in the 2nd oldest and one of the tiniest libraries in our state today! Normally only one person works there (so much responsibility!) and it's incredible the little community they've cultivated. It felt like being in someone's very loved home rather than a typical branch.

I think it's interesting that a common criticism of The Three Body Problem (the book) is that the characters are flat. To me, the characters are not the point. They're only there to convey scientific messages and plot. Just like plot is not the point in a serious literary character study. #booksky

Had a wonderful snow day with my son. It felt so serene and still outside. As we walked over the untouched, freshly fallen snow, I felt so privileged - lucky to get to be the first to walk among it, hand in hand with my little boy.

I had the sudden urge to reread this. First read it when I was a preteen. It certainly isn't the masterpiece I thought it was at that time, but it actually exceeded my low adult expectations, unlike most of the other books I loved during that era and have chosen to reread. #booksky #bannedbooks

Yearly reading goals are set! I honestly hope I read a lot less this year so that I can distribute my time a little more evenly across my other hobbies.
A screenshot from Storygraph that says: 2025 reading goal - 50 books. 2025 pages goal - 10,000 pages.

Lisa Jewell has done it again. Nothing gets me out of a reading slump quite like her books. I just can't get enough. They are full of tension, hard to put down, and keep me guessing on every page. Absolutely chefs kiss 🤌 #booksky

What a wonderful Christmas. I feel so lucky to have such a lovely family. I know it was a good one, because I'm ending the day kind of sad, knowing moments like this in life can be fleeting, that my son will never be as small and precious as he is now. It just teaches you to appreciate everything ❤️

I'm not gonna lie, I really don't like opening presents. Much prefer to just receive a simple gift card. I take joy in giving gifts, though, and I'm so excited to finally have my family open my gifts to them (because another personal quirk of mine is that I'm terrible about keeping gift secrets).

📚 Library patrons! Please check out a book you plan to read someday, but not right now. We won’t be able to tell you haven’t read it, it’s good for our metrics, and it prevents good books from getting weeded when they still have a kindred spirit out there.

Had to take a break from The Bell Jar because I started to feel the big ol' depression. Picked this up at the library, along with it's counterpart, Sybil Exposed. I was born too late for the peak in interest of this story, but it's been an interesting read so far! #booksky

I think it's a nice idea to end the year with a reread of a book you love. Even if you didn't read as much as you wanted, or read a lot of books you ended up not liking, it reminds you of why you are a reader in the first place. Takes you back to your roots, so to say. #booksky

I read the picture book The Journey by Francesca Sanna to my son and after pondering on it, I do think it is a book that will surely eventually (if not already) be targeted by Mom's For Liberty, simply because it humanizes migrant children and families.

I really want to boot up my Tamagotchi and play again, but then I remember I have a job, a toddler, and am a full time student. I think about that beeping - those cries for attention, and know I would not be able to fulfill the little guy's hopes + dreams. So he sadly stays in a drawer. #tamagotchi

I have had FAR more trouble in our library with patrons who are well-off than with those who are homeless. People experiencing homelessness are not the ones who come to me with racist/ derogatory remarks, book bans requests, or treat me like a servant. That would be the bourgeoisie.

I have a book out Monday! Tradwife is a fictional true crime-style reconstruction of a mass murder in a Stepford-esque Tradwife community. It's a little bit In Cold Blood, a little bit Stepford Wives & a little bit Handmaid's Tale.. and you can pre-order it now! 📚💙 tinyurl.com/5x5xjtev
Promo image for TRADWIFE by TC Parker, with:

A. TRADWIFE book cover, showing a young white woman in 1950s-style housewife garb in a midcentury modern kitchen, holding a bleeding human heart on a plate... and looking pretty happy about it, and,

B. Blurb from author Beverley Lee, that reads:

"With her trademark razor sharp social commentary, T C Parker delivers a masterfully crafted story for our times. Unapologetically brutal in its narration of a fictitious account that could well be horrifically true, Parker pulls no punches in exposing the cancerous poison of the Tradwife movement. It's a scream in the face of religious fascism and misogyny erupting around the globe, its message a chilling forewarning of the dangers of societal complacency. If any book should be required reading for everyone, it's this one. All the stars!"

The experiment lasted but a day (but I swear I'll get back to it! maybe...) because I did indeed read Girl, Interrupted. But if you read a book in one sitting, does it count as reading two books at once? Maybe not! ⭐⭐⭐ This was a strange one. It came across as a very withheld, defensive memoir.

Almost 30 and I don't think I'll ever be a morning person, it's just not in the cards for me. There's not been a single morning where I've woken up at 6:30am because I work that day and been like "I'm so happy to be up this early!"

Last year I made a tree ornament that was a jar filled with all the books I had read that year (49 books total). But considering it was already a large and heavy ornament, and the fact that I've read nearly 100 books this year, I don't think I'll be doing it again. Was a cute idea though! #booksky

Cold day outside, which you'd think would translate to more foot traffic inside our library but nope! Slow day, which just means more reading time for me. I do worry, though, for some of my regulars who are experiencing homelessness and haven't shown up today. I hope they're staying warm.

Perhaps one of the most complex and intellectually written memoirs I've ever read. At times I wondered if it was too much, maybe self indulgent in its prose - but as the book will tell you, women have been accused of being such for centuries. It is just the right amount. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #booksky
