Having some feelings about Assassin's Creed which are probably too wordy to post anywhere sensible. Hoping @outsidextra.bsky.social makes a video explaining the financial decisions behind whatever the hell they've been doing recently that makes the games measurably longer without being better.

The features they have added from more recent games are tiresome, like, why do you want me to keep playing your game after I've finished the whole plot? What do you get from that, game company? I'm not giving you more money or anything. It's like the Marvel movies - you never have a real ending because they gotta cliffhanger all the time, which just means you never feel finished, ever. Shadows was even worse for that because they've decided to remove all Precurser content, all modern day content, and you aren't even playing a capital-a-Assassin apparently?! That's not Assassin's Creed, that's just historical fiction surely? You can spend a hundred hours waiting for the other shoe to drop and instead there's only stupid daily quests. I already have doom-scrolling on my phone to suck me in with no payoff, why is there doom-questing in my games now?? Plus, that many pointless extra quests means that the whole plot gets diluted down, reducing the emotional impact of each story beat because it's been so long real time since anything important happened. The new content in Black Flag is introduced so early that it's completely derailed the start of the game; I've got hours of side quests on the board, and I haven't even been shown all the game mechanics yet, not to mention remembering why Edward is making the choices he's making."

A loop-de-loop made from my lunch. The stripes are: a red vinaigrette slaw, sundried tomato pesto, red pepper hummus and a local Irish mature cheddar. With prompt cards in cream cheese and black pepper on an olive oil cracker, and some broccoli because it needed colour. Perhaps they represent players?

3 dolls licensed from Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). Mina looks like Mary Poppins trying to pose for a photo with an incredibly high fever (cinched waist, puffy shoulders and high collar, all in green; glassy eyes drifting to opposite sides of her head). There are then 2 Draculas. The first is a pretty good approximation of hot young Absynth Dracula, with his cravat, top hat and tiny glasses. If you look closely he has the face of Andy Garcia but it works. The other (Vlad the Impaler Drac) is best described as Matt Berry in a knock-off batman hallowe'en costume he bought online sight-unseen, and found out it was red too late to get something else. Mina's head is too small, the Draculas' heads are too big. Overall, not sure if toys or wedding cake toppers.

From a different angle you can see the table legs... which are just warhammers! I did try doing something to cover up the rim of the base, but didn't find anything which would scale correctly.

Fleur de Coeur, an assassin built for infiltration. She uses her monk and bard skills to perform as an acrobat, taking out her targets with a flick of her wrist when she gets close. My first proper use of kitbashing to get the pose I always wanted for this character.

A feminine but clearly artificial figure, with porcelain-white and gold paneling, ornate painted makeup and a performer's outfit in pink and purple which matches her eyes. She is standing on one hand, her back arched and legs pointed straight forwards over her head. She lifts her head to sight a target for the shuriken she wields in her free hand.

Very silly thing: down the country to celebrate anniversary with @natural20.bsky.social and I asked the nice cocktail bar to make me a Johnny Silverhand - described in Cyberpunk 2077 as a tequila old fashioned topped up with cerveza with a chili garnish. The result was very drinkable!

There was a call for filler art for the #Glasgow2024 souvenir book which I did a little piece for; it wasn't used but honestly I'm not surprised, especially now I've seen the final book (which is very nice). I'm still pretty pleased with my cyberpunk armadillo though.

I didn't take a lot of pictures at CriticalRole - my convention brain is programmed not to post pictures of cosplayers without consent - but here's my view at least.
