The shared excitement over NASA’s recent mission compared to the general indifference to SpaceX missions speaks to the power of something seen as the product of communal human effort rather than just the ego and avarice of one obnoxious dork.

Me: What shirt do you want to wear today? 3yo: Avocado shirt. Me: I don't think you have an avocado shirt, bud. 3yo: Hmm. We could get glue and put it on the avocados and stick them all over my body. That would be a good avocado shirt.

The world feels broken a lot of the time, but also my newly-potty-trained toddler had an accident at a playdate yesterday and when we got out of the bathroom, one mom had clean pants and a bag and another one had already cleaned up the mess. So, more of that.

It feels like there's this idea that everything has an objective value on the good to bad scale and you're either correct or deceived about what it is. And the worst thing you can be in our society is deceived, so people tie themselves in knots trying to prove they know the Truth.

This article touched on the kind of faith I have found value in: a reverence for mystery and humble commitment to living out belief. A "skeptical belief" that doesn't provide certainly so much as a way of moving through the world with open-minded intention.

One thing I see people missing in the discussion about acetaminophen is that most other drugs are off the table during pregnancy. People are like, "Haha Advil is loving this," but ibuprofen is not recommended during pregnancy.

Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.

"They want to do justice to all sides and are then crushed ... Disappointed by the irrationality of the world, they see themselves doomed to futility, and resignedly they step aside or fall an easy victim to those who are stronger." Bonhoeffer
The text reads:

The failure of "rational" persons, who think they are able by a little reasonableness to (with the best intentions and a naive misunderstanding of reality) put back together the pillars that have come to pieces, is obvious. With their inadequate ability to see, they want to do justice to all sides and are then crushed by the forces which are rebounding on one another, and do not accomplish the slightest result. Disappointed by the irrationality of the world, they see themselves doomed to futility, and resignedly they step aside or fall an easy victim to those who are stronger.
