Attending an 80s-themed work event. Not all of the songs playing over the loudspeaker are from the 1980s. Like, “Heart of Glass”came out in 1979. Just sayin’ 😂

Jjimdak—savory braised chicken—is one of the first Korean dishes I learned to make. This is largely bc my parents aren’t wild about chicken, so we didn’t eat it very often at home. Once I moved out, I began to learn more about other Korean meals. Now, this dish holds a special place in my heart 🍽️

Jjimdak—with golden potatoes, carrots & sweet potato glass noodles—cooked in a large stainless steel shallow pot. The dish is topped with sliced Fresno chili peppers and scallions.

Even though it’s still oppressively hot here in southern California, I guess I’m in soup mode for the rest of the year. Whipped up a batch of green minestrone for my work lunches this week. 🍽️

Hung out with my sister today. Made some bibimbap for her, with some garlic-sesame kale, roasted zucchini & two fried eggs cooked in chili crisp. 🍽️

If you want something to motivate you to be more like Dolly, I highly recommend the documentary STILL WORKING 9 to 5. It's all about how the film inspired real labor movements to improve workplace conditions for women, and how far we still have to go. It's available to stream for free on Tubi.

I’ve been having a wild week. Someone made off with all four of my hubcaps while my car was parked in its assigned carport. Apparently, I can only replace them with Toyota factory hubcaps, which will set me back $400. On a brighter note, just received my copy of Josh Silver’s Fruit Fly (2026). 🤷🏻‍♀️

Benji does not like other dogs at all. I suspect that she may have been attacked by other dogs while she was a stray. She still barks her head off whenever she sees other dogs in our complex, but has gotten slightly better. Despite this, other dogs love her. She must give off a stern mommy energy 😆

My parents called me in a panic, saying that their water was shut off. After perusing their city’s public utilities website, located the phone number and tried calling multiple times. Call wouldn’t go through. Reported an outage online, only to get a reply that I’d get a response by August 7. 😤

Settling in to watch John Cassavetes’s A Woman Under the Influence (1974) for the first time. Yeah, I know that Cassavetes was an indie darling (as was Gena Rowlands), but I never felt compelled to watch his work until today.

Benji and I spent some time today looking after a friend’s house. At first, Benji whimpered a bit, but she settled down and waited with me very, very patiently. She is, like her mommy, very much a homebody 😂

Finally got around to watching Curry Barker’s Obsession (2025) earlier today. Umm, it was fine. I don’t know if folks hyped up this film too much. I thought it dragged a bit—especially toward the middle of the work—and the writing was just okay. But Inde Navarette was a true standout. 🤷🏻‍♀️
