Random long shot but: anyone know anyone who needs a good part-time worker in Edinburgh? My 18yo just started uni there except there's a 5 week teaching strike, and he's bored and lonely as his accommodation is miles away and really anti social. He wants a job.

In 2012, I stood on a stage with Anne Carson as a volunteer grad student to help her perform BRACKO, an adaptation of Sappho, where my job was to say the word "bracket" every time there was a bracket, which was more than two hundred times

We're all used to seeing (and mocking) the endless queues waiting to summit Yr Wyddfa but reading George Borrows' Wild Wales and he records that the mountain's tourism was well enough established in the mid-18thC that there was a permanently inhabited cabin dispensing refreshments located at the top

I went low-tech with my Lyle's golden syrup tins and turned it into a cave for my toy plastic penguin which I horrifically precociously called Polonius.

1990-1 I worked for a small charity in Cambridge. We were approached by a solicitor looking for a worthy cause to receive a free TV from their anonymous client. It transpired to be Archer, then in the middle of some scandal, looking to launder his reputation with a photo op of his ‘generosity’.

An enormous sendoff this morning for Simon Trewin. He was a giant of the publishing industry but the tributes were all about his empathy, curiosity and deep interest in other people, and the way he'd brought so many people in the (packed) church together. It's how anyone would want to be remembered.

A reminder for book designers. The job of a spine is to be noticable, interesting and legible in a bookshop. The job of a cover is to be identifiable when someone cool is reading the book further down the carriage from you the tube.

Today programme about to platform someone advocating for ‘AI rights’. Off it goes. If AIs have rights then they should also be subject to the rule of law. If so, they are by their creators’ own admissions guilty of massive levels of theft, and so can go straight to jail and enjoy their rights there.
