my overall stance is a bit more nuanced than just "AI bad", i'm sure there are some genuinely interesting use cases for machine learning stuff and i hope those avenues continue to be explored. but most any generative model or chatbot can fuck right off. i don't want anything to do with those.

it is just a program that amalgamates a ton of data in the form of words, and uses all that data to generate text based on what you input using probability, using patterns derived from the data. it does not think. it cannot think. it is not alive. stop fucking acting like it is.

the whole "AI" thing catching on pisses me off so much because it's such a misnomer. an LLM is not "intelligent", not in any way comparable to a living creature's mind. all these things are is essentially a really souped-up version of the predictive text on your phone. that's literally it.

come on, y'all. a chatbot is not sentient. it is not conscious. it simply does not think or make decisions in the way a human does. it cannot be held accountable. if the chatbot isn't working as advertised, it's an issue with the programmers, or with the technology itself at a basic level.

every time i see a post/headline that ascribes some sort of personhood/agency to Chat GPT or whatever the fuck else people are using, that says the chatbots themselves are "hallucinating" or "decieving users" or "forgetting guardrails", it makes me want to punch a hole through my wall.
