Nothing more broke lib brained than "social progress is when you also let the gays run the killing industrial complex"
Antonia Bance MP @antoniabanc... 8m

I'II put this another way: teenage Wes grew up in a country where a career in the armed forces was closed to him. Now e's Defence Secretary. These changes are incredibly recent

Sunder Katwal... @sundersay... h

Wes Streeting is the first UK Secretary of State for Defence who is openly gay.
Gay people have been able to serve openlv in the UK Armed Forces since 2000.
Like PM Andy Burnham's Catholicism, something that would have been controversial is largely now a matter of biographical colour.

Mahmood as chancellor, Purnell as chief of staff. Already committed to the current hideous immigration reforms, can't call out an obvious genocide, won't nationalize water companies. I've seen enough.

"City relieved" = Burnham's government won't challenge the power of the bankers, or tax their wealth. Who is choosing our politicians - the people or the banking sector?
Financial times - city relieved as Burnham poised to choose Mahmood as his Chancellor

America hasn't "long stood for freedom and prosperity". It's exported war and suffering around the globe, overthrowing democratic governments who dare stand up for their own citizens and installing despots and murderers in their place. To claim otherwise is ahistorical nonsense.

Explain, in detail, how you are going to enforce keeping trans women out of women's spaces. See if you can do it without sounding like an absolute danger or the gestapo.

This captures so much of UK culture. Apoplectic rage at the idea someone considered undeserving gets given something. You see it with the endless attacks on the human rights act. Universal human rights are anathema to an establishment who only believe in privileges granted by hierarchy.

Meet James Purnell. Andy Burnham's chief of staff. In earlier incarnation, he supported the Iraq invasion; was chairman of Labour Friends of Israel; said that Winter Fuel Allowance and free bus passes should not be sacred; supported PFI, lie-detector tests for benefit claimants. What next?

My strongest memory of Starmer will be his 2024 conference speech, where he said "every child deserves respect", a young activist said "does that include the children of Gaza?", and he laughed and said "he's obviously got a pass to the 2019 conference".

It's amazing listening to Starmer listing his achievements and they're either: 1. Things that are bad 2. Things that he's not done 3. Things he initially opposed upon taking office Truly a generational talent in being a delusional prick.

Brexit is not the main reason Starmer has failed. He’s failed because he told a large section of his core voters to fuck off, in words and with his vile authoritarian right wing actions

Starmer had a massive majority and could have made a real difference to the lives of ordinary people, people whose lives are a daily struggle. Instead, he chose Israel, corporations and authoritarianism, the path of his own downfall. You reap what you sow

Politicians who fanned these flames should hang their heads in shame. Time and again we've seen this story play out. Single incidents used to fuel a far right narrative - and communities across the nation paying the price.

A Financial Times article quote discusses public control versus nationalisation. The mood is informative.
