I work with ai models semi-regularly in a professional academic setting. I am used to differentiating between actually useful ai programs, and mass-marketed slop. There is no gulf of understanding, at least on my end.

hey man, if you had read my previous comment you’d see that I mentioned this, I have used ai in digital art before. The fact that it CAN be used properly doesn’t mean that there is nothing wrong with the way you’re using it here

The fact that you can actually put effort into art just makes it more embarrassing dude.

I wouldn’t if data centers weren’t being forced on small towns for energy-inefficient overuse that’s subsidized by our federal government in conjunction with massive megacorps intent on obliterating our rights and our planet

Also, bull-fucking-shit you didn’t steal anything. That is the same cookie-cutter smoothed out corporate art style that every ai image smells of, takes less than a second to clock. Cool art bro I’m glad you’re ok with generating the same bullshit as every other lazy American

Well then don’t act like I’m some old grandpa for thinking it’s shite, you embarrass any side you take because ai art screams “I want quick and easy and generic art for likes”

You don’t understand photography then, because photographers actually put work into their art. I’m not saying it’s not art, I’m saying it’s the cheapest and and laziest and least inspired way to do it. If you want to bring attention to issues you care about then actually put some effort in.

Photography actually requires skill and effort.

A camera is a way to capture the position of photons/energetic particles as visual data on a 2d plane, genAI is a neural network designed to digest and adjust to input data. Reducing them both down to “art machines” is so completely missing the point it’s not even funny

I frankly find it insane that you would rather rely on a power-hungry, polluting data center to make a bad piece of art than just do it for free with msPaint. At least by hand you get practice and you show you care. We don’t have issues with ai, we have issues with lazy people relying on it

felics @sharpthingy.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Ai is used in programs like blender and other modeling/animating softwares, (digital editing also was criticized like photography), it’s mostly fine there as it’s a tool to help creative people make art. What you are doing is the equivalent of those cheap dime-a-dozen carnival t-shirts.

If someone photocopies someone else’s picture and claims it as their own, that’s cheap and shitty. Comparing photography as a whole to the lazy practice of wholly generating the image is disingenuous. I don’t care if you are bad at drawing, everyone is bad at first, I’m bad but I still do it

Photography was revolutionary as it altered the way that we use a specific medium and in that it created its own art form and its own medium (in a way), ai image generation is an imitation of both photography and pre-photo visual arts (as well as literary).

“You Luddite, you’re going away with history” I literally use genAI in research I know how it can be used well. This is a waste of energy to make an uninspired (THAT is not an opinion!) piece of “art,” instead of you just drawing it yourself. It would be easy to draw and wouldn’t be so wasteful

Light capture onto images directed by humans is different from the government-subsidized power-sucker being forcefully shoved down our throats by our corporate marketing gods. Do you not see how using a machine to make an image that you couldnt be bothered to make cheapens your point?

felics @sharpthingy.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Have you considered that ai image generation is ugly and blatant and tells people that you didn’t care enough to draw something yourself? It cheapens your point by using it, generative ai isn’t going away, but ai “art” is a scam and is in no way the continuation of the human artistic tradition

Carefully imported from Terra, the biomachines prop up the thin air of the Martian Fringe and can maintain the bodily function of a single adult human without refuel or maintenance for 40 days. Though veteran agents know to travel in number and to use Xecamelops to carry spare parts and supplies.”

To survive the hostile climate, the Hazop-Sherif must be be a highly efficient duo of man and machine. Immersed in a network of Sub-Machines entombed in Cognitoplankton webs, a careful microclimate is maintained, drawing scant power and nutrients from the sun and in-taken organic material.

Politics
Yet to regain the majority, Democrats would need to run more competitively among White voters without a four-year college degree — the mostly widely accepted definition of the working class — than they typically have done in the Trump era.

To clarify I mean that in coming up with a term to label them as a group, even in a derogatory sense, we accept that “AI” are entities capable of being labeled as humans are. I think this stems from the general chatbot formula of pretending to talk like a human which also bugs me.
