If we lose the Fourth Estate, we lose our democracy. We are losing the fourth estate. Very quickly. We are being lied to every day. We need to stand up and shout in order to get the news media back on track. It won't happen on its own.

That makes sense. I kind of enjoy it when artists use actors (sparingly). Especially when they are really well "cast." Stiff and cardboard is much worse, especially when it creates difficulty in telling the characters apart outside of the clothing/hairstyle!!

What are your feelings when it comes to "realism," for example, in the case of using actual actors as models for characters. I'm thinking specifically about Mike Deodato using Ed Norton and Tommy L. Jones as models in his Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers runs. (Comics related questions are okay, yes?)

"wrong with me?" I somehow cut off part of my question. (10 minute doodle; my handwriting friend says fast is best.) Six weeks until I pester again. Unless you prefer even longer. There's a fine line, and all that. (You can't help being interesting, and shouldn't have to suffer weirdos as a result.)

If you don't have time for this nonsense, don't bother. I just figured it would make a nice diversion from Jojo Rabbit or, you know, making a living and creating meaningful art. (As they say, those who can't do, pester those who can.)

@patrickzircher.bsky.social I've a friend who's a legal handwriting expert. Do you think artists can do the same with art? If so, what do you surmise is wrong with me? I'll not be offended (even if all you can determine is that I'm horrid at art!) Ten minute doodle; was told fast was most accurate.

I really wish that had happened.

I'm halfway through it myself. Had to stop for a while. It's incredibly repetitive. I agree that it could be much shorter. It does have its moments, but it's a bit too crude for my taste. I like the first book better. I love the movie.

Oh, same. I deliberately quit dating 15 years ago. (My last hook up was with a cute guitar player, 20 years my junior, at a Yaoi convention. I felt like that was at least ending things on a high note. And on my terms.) Romantic relationships have been a nightmare for me; I attract controlling men.

Fair enough. The more you have the more you spend. Generally speaking, anyway. We are both dealing with much suckage,* as (doubtless) are most of the denizens of this benighted nation. *Not the fun kind.

I do know that's how he "washed his hands" of the whole affair (in the most pedantic way possible). Still, he was working for Rome, and so for Roman interests. Following orders, basically, which is never a good excuse, but it does explain his motivations. I'll look for the documentary. Thanks!

Saul/Paul is fascinating as well.

I still think he's an interesting character, but I admit to having a fascination with the ancient Roman empire. I wouldn't have wanted to live under it, but I do enjoy learning about it. I even have an cookbook with recipes from ancient Rome. (Many of the ingredients are tricky, to say the least.)

Can you link me to that documentary? I'd be interested to see it. That said, history is written by the winners. Pilate absolutely existed, but everything attributed to him may (or may not) be apocryphal. Discounting faith, there's no way to know for certain.

Christianity SHOULD be the stuff attributed to Jesus. Yet I hear conservative Christians quoting everything except his words. In my opinion, the New Testament should overwrite the old, but conservative Christians manage to wedge in a lot of old testament while neglecting the Christ in Christianity.

I also think Pontius Pilate got a raw deal. Crummy posting, lots of conflict: a no win scenario for him, basically. I'd really like to read the story from his perspective. (Someone needs to write that!)

I'd watched The Sound of Music too many times and thought I wanted to be a nun. I kept thinking, "I can't buy into this." 2nd time it was curiosity, as I was so young the first time. But the impression was the same. I like the stuff attributed to Jesus, but can do without the rest. *Facetious bow*

It's time they created a list and released it since it is clear trump and his cronies continue to ignore the law and release the Epstein files because so many of them, including trump are in it. .

Accurate. I've read both testaments twice. Once at twelve (a slog) and again at 30. Same end result both times.

I promise you my debt is worse than yours. And I have no income. I think I'll keep my parents for a while though. That's not negotiable. (You may not be getting the best end of this deal.)

Just pass me your credit cards and I'll take care of it. When can I move into your house? You can have mine. I'm keeping the cats though. You get all the maxxed credit cards I own however.

It happens. That's why I believe in shopping around. Experts suggest searching until you find a match in a psychologist or psychiatrist; the same rule applies to attorneys, at least in my semi-educated opinion. I wrote a lot of Family Law articles at the bar; they were our most active section.
010
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
This is largely supposition, but first of all, they have hugely expensive attorneys. Secondly, their earnings are obscene. There's usually property involved as well. As they say, "it takes money to make money." And they already have it by the bucketfuls.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
It can only get better. He's like a rock around your ankle at this point, and you're at sea. First thing to do is to cut that rock loose; then focus on saving yourself. I'd have been dead more than a decade ago if I hadn't gone through with that divorce. I just know it. And then he would have won. 😡

Most importantly, I learned my lesson, and no one got hurt. In spite of the expense, the stress, and the terror, I feel it's the best thing that could have happened to me. I rarely drink at all these days (it makes me sad) and I won't drive after even one. Long way of saying, "yay, lawyer referral!"
110
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I used it 20 years ago. I drove drunk. (a horrible mistake that I never made again!) I used our lawyer referral system to get an attorney, and he was wonderful, making everything as simple/stress free as possible. I pld guilty, but accountability is usually well received. Eventually got it sealed.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
It's a good way to find a match if you don't already have one in your pocket. Which, honestly, most people don't.
210
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
And I repeat, get a good lawyer. Shop around and find the one who fits. I think I mentioned that many do free consultations. Every state bar also has a referral system. Those are all attorneys in good standing with the state bar.

Alimony and spousal maintenance are actually two different things. Spousal maintenance tends to be temporary, whereas alimony is more permanent. You only need the money long enough to get up on your feet again. Once you've breathed the free air, that will be much easier than it sounds at present.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

You as well. Let me know anytime you want to chat. We can DM if you prefer. If I don't respond right away it probably means I'm taking one of my weirdly timed naps. Not working has really screwed with my circadian rhythms, or something like that...

My one divorce stipulation was that I be removed as co-signer on his new SUV. I knew I'd be on the hook for that money, and that he'd eventually be unable to pay it. (Coke is an expensive habit.) I had great credit; he couldn't even get a credit card (and they give those out like candy).

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Last time I heard anything from him was about 15 years ago: debt collectors searching for him. I pointed them to Garland, TX. He was terrible with money. Together we were making more than $80,000 (in the early nineties) and still didn't retain a penny.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Because of course he did not withhold enough. I've never been more furious with myself. Not to mention the fun brought in with all the yelling and drama that went along with me losing MY money.
200
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Be sly/stealthy. Make sure no legal or financial info gets back to him. Surprise him after you've done the leg work, and it will work out better for you. My divorce was well before I worked for the state bar, and I screwed up; a bank statement came to the house. My savings paid his fucking taxes.

And just to honour my witchy days of yore, I'll send a quiet curse in his direction for you this evening. Or better yet, say a pagan blessing for you! You can do this. The process is a pain in the ass, but it's worth it.
100
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
The process is going to be a pain in the ass, but worth it. Whether or not you're showing bruises or manifesting symptoms, believe me when I say he is quite literally killing you slowly. I've left my witchy days behind me, but still believe mental well-being has a huge impact on physical well-being.

I also have complete confidence that once he's out of your life you're going to find a new vigor and new motivation to pursue other career paths. It certainly works for me, at least for a good 15 years before everything turned all maga.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
But I don't think you'll walk away with nothing. Not after 44 years of marriage. Write the abuse off (without ever forgetting it!); spousal maintenance has nothing to do with abuse.
000
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
In most states, in a marriage that long, assuming he pulls in more money than you do and has for a while, it should be a given. Again, it won't hurt to talk to a lawyer. Many offer free consultations. They'll definitely know the law there better than I do.
100
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
My understanding, though I could be wrong, is that even in a no-fault state spousal maintenance is not considered a division of property, but more a matter of keeping you "in the manner to which you are accustomed" financially.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
It's a different world for men. Women compete for their attention and approval and stab each other in the back. Meanwhile the men are all Bros with one another. It's a sucky situation, and while it has improved since my twenties (less open sexual harassment), it still is far from ideal.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Just get a good lawyer. If you don't know of one, there should be a referral service through your state bar. Shop around. And start socking away money in a separate account. Make sure the statements go to a PO box, and not your home address. (That's how I was busted.)
000
Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
If he makes more off retirement than you make, after that much time married, he should owe you spousal maintenance. I worked for a bar journal for 15 years, but it was Nevada law. And every state's a little different. But it sounds to me like you have a good case.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
This may sound ironic considering all my financial and depression complaints of late, but I had a good 15 years there before everything went to hell. They were actually some of the happiest times of my life. I had good friends, a decent job, and just didn't worry about men much.

Sharpeslass @sharpeslass.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Same. I was raised by a Canadian mum who had a very different life experience. I always joke that if we had a religion in our household it was politeness. Confrontation was avoided at all costs. Kindness was valued above everything else. And boy did that rip me to shreds in the workplace.
