Taxing them? At this point we should be eating them. Probably safer than anything in the meat and produce aisles; definitely cheaper, and they likely don't run very quickly. (Reluctant disclaimer: I am not seriously suggesting cannibalizing people. Even awful ones. They'd harden your arteries.)

With feminism on many minds today, following the loss of Gloria Steinem, I want to bring up Half the Sky, by two Pulitzer winning journalists. It's gut wrenching, but hopeful: an example of how community and civilization can improve when women are handed the agency due them. Highly recommend!

So, everyone knows that female action heroes have been around since way before the hunger games. But here's a big difference. After Aliens, they sold replicas of the reeboks that Ripley wore in the film. They were sold ONLY in men's sizes. I cannot begin to express how pissed off we teen gals were.

As summer comes to an end, I thought I would mention the fact that 40 years ago this summer, at 16, I saw this film in a packed theater. Loved is not a strong enough word. Then we moved to England, and saw it again on an base full of airmen. They were SO into it. Both peak cinema experiences.

Being fully aware that there are far more important issues currently, I am so fucking sick of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds and their bottomless cruelty. They need to go away. As I was reading Deadpool comics well before the films, at least Reynolds hasn't completely ruined the character for me.

While I like the idea of reaction videos as a distraction, most of my favourite films tend to be dialogue heavy and require attention. This means they're rarely covered and when they are, they are covered poorly. The consensus tends to be either "that was weird" or "I didn't understand it."

I've developed an obsession with body Cam and dash cam videos on youtube. Mostly they just make me realize how incredibly privileged I was as a young person. I wouldn't have gotten away with half the things that I did if I'd been Driving While Black. I was pulled going 105 in a 75. I got a WARNING.

I swear to god, the processed bread in the United States is the most flavorless nutritionless garbage in any country in which I've ever lived. In order to get decent bread, one has to spend a fortune, I don't have. The local German bakery is closed (the tarrifs killed it). So there's my supply gone.

As a long-time fan of both Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgard, I've watched Chernobyl several times. Still, it always leaves me in a cold sweat. As a child of the '80s, nothing frightens me more than the idea of radiation poisoning. Nightmare fuel. We were living in the UK when it happened.

The new Spider-man flick was deeply disappointing, due to the complete underutilization of Michael Mando. I usually only go for men at least 14-30 years older than myself, but God that guy is pretty (not to mention talented). What a waste.
