Just finished the excellent #Salvagia by @timchawaga.bsky.social. Highly recommended if you like ecological stories, crime fiction, and near-future SF. This one throws you into the plot on page 1 and doesn't let go - criminal orgs with conflicting agendas, semi-sentient ships and more!

Eels are classic. And also classical! In fact, they're the only fish mentioned by name in Homer's Iliad. In Book 21, Achilles kills a Trojan in the River Scamander. Like ya do. And immediately, the eels begin to nibble on the dead man's kidneys. Nibble. 'Cause eels are dainty. 🗃️🧪
Meme. Ancient Greek-style art of 2 warriors fighting in front of a wall, with the Trojan horse in the background. The scene is orange tinted, with the warriors in black. The warrior on the right wears a shield, helmet, & a swashbuckling cloak. He holds a spear and is lunging forward to stab his opponent. The warrior on the left has no armor. He has an arrow in his ankle, and so is probably Achilles. He has a sword raised, but it's not going to help. He's about to be stabbed, and he can't even reach his foe. The scene looks very much like a Mortal Combat level.

Behind the men are the walls of the city, with the head of a giant horse rearing above the wall. It seems to watching the fight like a Pokemon battle. It's muzzle points towards the warrior on the right as if to say, "That's my dawg." Achilles, on the left, feels cold fingers around his heart. He had hoped the Horse would save him, but his hopes have been betrayed. The Horse is a cruel mistress.

Meme text reads:

Happy Wednesday.
In case you forgot:
We live on a planet where whales sing songs that travel for miles.
Where trees can recognize their own offspring and protect them underground.
Where dolphins give each other names and where lightning can create glass in the sand.
Where horses can read human emotions.
Where rain has a smell before it even arrives and where the ocean can glow in the dark.
And where stars we see might not even exist anymore.

Just finished MEMORIES OF ICE, Book 3 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I can't believe I am reading this series, but after getting over the hurdle of being thrown in feet first in Book 1, you begin to swim in the worldbuilding by book 2. It doesn't get any more epic than this!

Themes and Tropes
Found family, cozy, adventure, dungeon-lit, dungeon crawling, unexpected romance, weird magicSynopsis:
Dariel dreams of becoming an adventurer but quickly learns it's far more dangerous--and expensive—than she'd ever imagined. With help from her friends Quintus and Jase and funding from the questionable Shadow Dwarf Cabal, Dariel braves the megadungeon Mythbarrow, where she discovers wonderous treasures, surprising allies, and an unexpected romance. But dungeon delving doesn't come without risks—slime wizards, drug-addled hobgoblins, and mysterious fairies to name just a few—and to make it out alive with her friends, she'll need every bit of skill and bravery she can muster.Excerpt:
Dariel peered through each open doorway, trying to guess which way she should go and more than a little worried about stumbling into another trap. The opening the first dwarf had gone through led into a chamber filled with stacked pots, most of which looked like they’d been smashed open. The center doorway led down a short hallway that opened into another chamber, this one holding what looked like stone plinths. The third one was another hallway that sloped down further underground.
She was about to try the center doorway when she heard a scream and shouting from down the sloped hallway. She yanked her sword out of its scabbard—the loose hilt rattling a little in her grip—and charged down the hall. As she rounded the corner, it occurred to her that most sensible people would have turned and run the other way.
Well, no one had ever called her sensible before. There was no reason she should start being sensible now.

Myth’s Landing – A City ’26 Project
This blogpost originally appeared on The Novel Game Master. I'm excited to participate in City '26. This is the 2026 TTRPG/worldbuilding project, inspired by prior years' projects like Dungeon 23. This one was kicked off by Garblag Games and is loosely coordinated by Alone in the Labyrinth.  For my City '26 project, I'll be detailing the town of Myth's Landing, setting for my dungeon-lit fantasy novel "The Company" about a group of friends who, without much experience and even less coin, try to start their own adventuring company, The Dungeon Hackers. For this challenge, I'll be detailing the roughly ten districts that make up Myth's Landing.
