Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Hey bakers (or @seamus.bsky.social perhaps?), HandyHusband recently revived his soudough starter from dried flakes after a slumber of five years. Rob Rye was coaxed back to life, but this is the second loaf that has come out flat. Tastes great but lacks spring. Any thoughts or experience to share? 120
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It really is. This is a project that aims to educate children and young adults in the sciences. We're trying to get them to be interested in the wonders of the *actual* world! Not a fake one! But it feels like a losing battle. 120
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Working with a media firm that has gone all-in on AI over the past several years, and I'm so sad at how much their creative work has gone downhill. We've worked with them for 25 years and I'm wondering if this is the last time. It's a real drag. 130
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Shades of "American pies" week. What did that even mean? It always seems like such a strange, forced concept. 020
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I'm so glad you posted it. I watched it five times! And then went through a bunch of other wonderful honoree ceremonies from that era. Joy indeed. 0121
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It's so hard to watch that and think about the last 10 disgusting years. But at least we have that moment. 2531
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 01/10/2026As a person who records from home, you have my vote and the votes of all my deceased relatives, too! 110
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Look at our weird and wonderful world! So far, the only one we know of with life, and it comes in the most boggling variations! What a gift scientists and engineers are giving us with these views. 011
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Sad to hear today that the @fableandfolly.bsky.social network is folding. What a great group of independent audio drama podcasts! I hope they all fall on their feet in good new homes. 010
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It's very interesting that YouTube is making it harder to contest a nonsense copyright violation right when AI is becoming such a huge part of its content. And by "interesting" I mean "makes me want to flip a very heavy desk". 111
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Patreon peeps, your September exclusive episode of Boring Books for Bedtime is live! Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I’ll second the “ the one you like the most” advice. There’s too much noise for too little payoff on all of them. Choose the one that suits your life and stick with it. 010
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 26/09/2026It’s so skewed to paid advertisements, it’s hard to get traction there. You might look for specific groups? But then you’ll hit the “no promotions allowed” wall. The silos are much tighter now. Good luck! 110
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Aw, thanks! Love a little validation from time to time. 😊 010
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Also gratifying that the no-ads choice I made years ago still resonates—maybe even more now in These Our Dumb Times. There were moments where I kicked myself for the financial hit it meant, but they didn't last. It was and remains the right choice for me. It's nice to see it validated! 110
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It's Feelgood Friday! After a week of annoyances, it's nice to pop into reviews and see lovely new comments from Boring Books for Bedtime listeners. As we approach eight (EIGHT!) years of never-missed-a-Monday posting, it's gratifying that people get something out of it. 120
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I am weirdly excited that my podcast gets treated the same as an NPR podcast, because this has been going on for more than a year on mine (in part, I think, because it's been around for years so there are lots of old episodes to hide in). Bless 'em. 050
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026This has been going on in the comments section of my podcast, Boring Books for Bedtime, for at least a year. In part it's because I have been around for 8 years; they usually congregate on old episodes that are "quiet." Nice to see it happens to Big Dogs, too! 030
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I have a rule with house spiders. In the web? Hello, helpful friend! What a beautiful thing you have made! Out of the web? NOPE. 020
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I haven't looked at all the productions done by The Globe, but they've had a few very interesting takes. The R&J set in the Old West I saw last year was, perhaps, not one of them, although it was fun in its way. 100
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026When there are never any consequences, are they wrong? 0270
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I really wish they would do a full-on straight adaptation of the play, with all male actors, a fairly plain stage and costumes, plus the language bonus. I would love to see a re-creation. 100

Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Was checking out trends as I contemplate freshening up our house after 25 years and realized that I’ve waited so long, the colors I have are currently cool again. May just repaint as is! 040
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Nothing marks the zoom of time more than our bird feeders. We are in the North Atlantic Flyway and today European starlings appeared. I thought, weren’t you just here?? Yes. Yes, they were. Five months ago. How???? 000
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026It is a total mystery to me! The scale idea is the only thing I can come up with, but targeting notoriously poor creatives is such a strange choice. Oh well, just one more annoyance to deal with in These Our Modern Times. 010

Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Once again I’m here to laud the fall monitor in the Apple Watch. Didn‘t need the services called this time, but it is weirdly comforting to have it. If you have an older person in your life (or a klutz, honestly) I highly recommend one. Things happen. 020

Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Montessori and similar educational systems have had "plain" toys for decades because it lets the imagination do the work. I think the biggest issue is parents who expect their kids to keep everything clean to maintain the aesthetic for their content. But I suspect reality cures that pretty quick. 110
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Thanks, but I think I need to sit with it for a while and see what *I* think. It's been 40 years, after all. It's entirely possible that it is, in fact, an embarrassing pile of garbage. :D 210
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Right?? I’m sure it needs major updating after 40 years but, hey, novel in hand! 010
Sharon Handy @shandy.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I remember the bones but I have no idea about the details. I’m rather interested to see what it was! 110
