@victoriagoddard.bsky.social I have a book publishing question. Have you considered putting out omnibus collections of your short stories and novellas?

The thing about trying not to pick a side is that the nazis *instantly recognize* which side you picked. They immediately identify you as an ally. They know exactly what side you're on. It doesn't fool the victims, it doesn't fool the Nazis, the only people it could possibly fool is centrists.

Slavoj Žižek has my dream job. I watched him speak in front of a crowd for 45 minutes uninterrupted about whatever he felt like while the host watched helplessly. when he finally finished she said "wise words" and he said "I HATE WISDOM" then started talking again

My brain is convinced that Ross Bryant from Dropout is the pre-Super-Soldier-serum version of Josh Scherer from Mythical Kitchen, to the point that I was surprised to discover that Josh has never been associated with Dropout.

I didn't really get what the Batman vs Bateman ads were about, because I only heard the tagine but didn't really look at what was on screen. I assumed it was a Christian Bale thing and was thinking "Patrick Bateman would probably still get the job done, if distastefully."

There's a rabbit hopping around in the backyard and agitating the cats. I didn't put out any food on purpose, so I'll have to check later to see which of my new plants it decided was food.

Can anyone else feel the breeze on your eyeballs immediately after taking out your contacts, or is it just me?

I'm a perfectionist about the things that I don't do. The things I actually accomplish are things I have convinced myself it's okay to do imperfectly. "Half assed is better than no ass" is something I tell myself but don't always believe.

I figured out I was dreaming around the time when @tkingfisher.com organized a Chanticleer concert in my house. But it was a good concert, so I decided to stay asleep.

Calligraphy practice for today.
Rhodia dotpad with calligraphy practice. At the top is the word "Solstice", written in Batarde script with a 6mm Pilot Parallel nib in an Opus 88 Demo body and teal FWP Edwards Gardens ink.

Below is a quote from Susan Cooper's poem "The Shortest Day", as follows:
"And so the shortest day came and the year died, and everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world came people singing, dancing, to drive the dark away."
It is written in Insular mishmash script using a 2.4mm Pilot Parallel pen with teal Octopus Fluids Dragon ink.

Calligraphy practice. Apparently two cartridge fills of Golden Beryl without rinsing the feed involves enough dried shimmer to clog a Pilot Parallel. I wasn't sure it was possible to clog one of those but now I know.
Rhodia dotpad with calligraphy. At the top, the word "Procrastination" is written in Batarde script using a 4.5mm Pilot Parallel pen with gold Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl ink.

Below is a quote by Robert Breault. It reads, "Eventually, time takes care of everything. The trouble with procrastination is that people give up on it too soon." The quote is written in Insular mishmash script using a 3mm Pilot Parallel pen with purple Wearingeul Persephone ink.

Calligraphy practice. "Existentialism" was too long a word to fit on one line with the 6mm nib, so I had to size down to a 4.5mm pen with the sadly discontinued Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl ink.
Rhodia dotpad with calligraphy writing.
The top line has a nib ladder followed by the word "Existentialism" written in Batarde script, using a 4.5mm Pilot Parallel pen and gold Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl ink.

Below is a quote from Jean Paul Sartre reading, "Life has no meaning a priori. It is up to you to give it meaning, and value is nothing but the meaning that you choose." it is written in Insular mishmash script using a 3mm Pilot Parallel pen and teal Wearingeul Persephone ink.

Calligraphy practice. Took me a while to get a satisfactory N, and the Batarde s is just weird. Annnd I conflated the c and e in significance, dammit.
Rhodia dotpad with calligraphy. At the top is written "Nihilism" in Batarde script, using a 6mm Pilot Parallel nib in an Opus 88 Demo with teal FWP Edwards Gardens ink.

Below is a quote describing nihilism: "Strut, fret, and delude ourselves as we may, our lives are of no significane [sic] , and it is futile to seek or affirm meaning where none can be found." It is written in Insular mishmash script using a 3mm Pilot Parallel pen and purple Wearingeul Persephone ink.

Calligraphy practice. I improvised on the long esses because I couldn't find an exemplar, and I ran out of room for the rest of the definition.
Rhodia dotpad with calligraphy writing.

At the top is "Depression", written in Batarde with 6mm Pilot Parallel nib in an Opus 88 Demo body and teal FWP Edwards Gardens ink. It has long esses for the double s.

Below is the beginning of the definition, written in Insular mishmash with a 3mm Pilot Parallel and purple Wearingeul Persephone ink. It reads "a mood disorder marked by varying degrees of sadness, despair, and loneliness and that is typically accompanied by inactivity, guilt, loss of..."

More calligraphy practice.
Rhodia dotpad with a row of majuscule E at the top and "Ennui" in the middle, both written in Batarde script with a 6mm Pilot Parallel nib in an Opus 88 Demo body and teal FWP Edwards Gardens ink.

Below that, the definition is written in Insular mishmash with a 3mm Pilot Parallel and purple Wearingeul Persephone ink:
"a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction"

Calligraphy practice. I'm... not doing well.
Rhodia dotpad with a row of majuscule A practice at the top, and the word "Anhedonia" in the middle, both in Batarde script written with a 6mm Pilot Parallel nib in an Opus 88 Demo body and teal FWP Edwards Gardens ink.

At the bottom of the page is the definition, written in Insular mishmash script with a 3mm Parallel Pen and purple Wearingeul Persephone ink:
"a psychological condition characterized by inability to experience pleasure in normally pleasurable acts"

Today's calligraphy practice is a blend of Italic and Cancellaresca Corsiva. I like the angle of the Cancellaresca, but apparently my hand prefers more upright forms. And that p is fun but doesn't really mesh with the rest of the letter forms.
Rhodia dotpad with two lower case calligraphy alphabets written in Italic with features of Cancellaresca Corsiva. Writing was done with a 3mm Parallel pen and Wearingeul Persephone ink.

Calligraphy practice today is in Italic script.
Rhodia dotpad with Italic calligraphy in Vinta Bisperas ink reading "And with strange aeons, even death may die."

An uncapped Pilot Parallel pen obscures an earlier practice attempt at the phrase.

An Aztec pangram for today's practice.
A Rhodia dotpad with two pangrams written in Insular mishmash script.

The first reads "His gaze is fixed along the wall / As Pangur Ban the cat hunts mice. / I with my books rejoice to live / Together with my quiet cat." It is written in Wearingeul Persephone ink and is partially obscured by an uncapped Pilot Parallel pen.

The second reads "Aztec hunter Mixcoatl loves drinking pulque brewed from juicy sap." It is written in Vinta Bisperas ink.

His gaze is fixed along the wall
As Pangur Ban the cat hunts mice
I with my books rejoice to live
Together with my quiet cat

Calligraphy practice from a few years back, of John M Ford's sonnet "Against Entropy".
Two pages of Insular Mishmash calligraphy that read as follows:
"
The worm drives helically through the wood
And does not know the dust left in the bore
Once made the table integral and good;
And suddenly the crystal hits the floor.
Electrons find their paths in subtle ways,
A massless eddy in a trail of smoke;
The names of lovers, light of other days
Perhaps you will not miss them. That’s the joke.
The universe winds down. That’s how it’s made.
But memory is everything to lose;
Although some of the colors have to fade,
Do not believe you’ll get the chance to choose.
Regret, by definition, comes too late;
Say what you mean. Bear witness. Iterate.

-Against Entropy by John M Ford
"

Text is written on Rhodia A3 dotpad with three sizes of Parallel Pens. Largest size is inked with FWP Edwards Gardens.

Just finished the new Paladin book from @tkingfisher.bsky.social and was intrigued to see the demon lore remind me of Penric & Desdemona. Now waiting for the Dreaming God to decide this one can stay.
