I’m the chronically online transit nerd who went out and started operating trains - My views and opinions do not represent those of my employer. I don’t know why people would assume that, but in the interest of keeping my job, it’s here.

It's very funny to me how NIMBY the Pearl is when this whole neighborhood didn't exist in 2000. If the Pearl NIMBYs were here back then and got their way, the Pearl wouldn't exist.

Cry more NIMBYs. We will build housing for people who want to live in Portland, and there’s nothing you can do about it. www.oregonlive.com/opinion/2026...

Ignoring that this story isn’t even newsworthy, it’s very funny that every reaction I’ve seen to this story is agreeing with his old tweets. Even on the Portland subreddit, which is very much not an ACAB/progressive place, the reaction is basically “and he was right to say it.”

Good to see TriMet mobilizing and educating riders about where the blame lies for these upcoming service cuts. “Funding TriMet should be a top funding priority for our region.”
From an email trimet sent riders today: Decision-makers are asking Oregonians to share how they think transportation dollars should be spent in the future. TriMet relies on state funding, and your feedback could help preserve our service for generations to come.

Now is the time to speak up. Tell them Oregon needs reliable public transit.

Take the survey

Here's some suggested copy for the blank survey portion:
Funding TriMet should be a top funding priority for our region. TriMet is essential infrastructure that connects people to jobs, school, health care, local businesses, community services and each other. For me, maintaining and investing in a strong public transit system is the #1 priority.

I understand historical preservation, but sometimes you have to accept that a building is past its time and will never be useful in the modern day. Centennial Mills was never going to be useful again, and so it sat for 20+ years, wasting space on the city’s waterfront, until it burned down.

So we wasted 20 years twiddling our thumbs wondering how to preserve an abandoned warehouse only for it to burn down.

You mean to tell me the predatory loan guy is trying to scam us and probably still move the team even if we give him the money? Wow, that’s so uncharacteristic for that kind of guy!

A denial of the master plan won’t prevent the Lloyd Center from closing, but it would delay plans for the center’s redevelopment
Finally, we want to make sure everyone is aware that there is no other plan. There is one Lloyd Center Master plan, and City Council can choose on Wednesday if they want to approve or deny it. If opponents of the redevelopment are successful, they will put the entire project in danger and the most likely outcome is that the mall closes with no plans for redevelopment at all.

All the way up in Brush Prairie, really? They really said “come to our transit union picnic. No, you can’t take transit there.”

Regular Shadow @shadowneedshelp.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
They are, in a way! The signals are linked so that they cascade to the next platform for us once we leave. They’re also timed, on the mall at least, so that we land at the platform and have a full light cycle, or one minute, to service the platform.
110
Regular Shadow @shadowneedshelp.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
Fun fact! If the MAX misses a signal in center city, it’ll usually take two light cycles for the train to get another signal. Each light cycle is almost exactly one minute, so that’s a two minute delay if a train misses a signal. This is why you shouldn’t hold the doors on a train.

San Diego fell from 5th to 12th most expensive rental market by building more multifamily housing per capita than any other California city. This is what happens when you actually build. The lesson isn't complicated. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2026/05/13/s...

Another contingency should be that they don’t block the MAX from getting across Interstate and into Rose Quarter. Every time a game lets out the SB lanes of Interstate back up and cars end up blocking the tracks.

Yep, from my estimation that’s about how much land the Lloyd Center and its parking takes up. Just looking at a satellite view shows that the main mall/parking is 6x3 city blocks. Add the bend 15th/16th does on the southeast corner and you get just under 20 blocks.

The suburbs are right there if you hate apartments so much. I’m sure you’ll be much happier living in the McMansions at Shitty Stroad in Happy Valley. Make room for those of us who actually want to live in a city.

Nobody forced these people to live in the principal city of a large metro area. They chose to live in the city, and then start complaining any time city things happen near them.

Don’t get me wrong, I have good memories of Lloyd, and I will miss what it once was, but its time has come. The mall was never going to recover to what it once was. Even if it could’ve, a mall is a terrible use for 20-ish blocks of city center real estate.

The average suburban subdivision HOA probably oversees more residences than Maywood Park’s city government does.

Ignoring most of the article to say that it’s so funny that Maywood Park is an actual city with an actual mayor. The place is literally smaller than most neighborhoods in Portland.
