Nassau Bahamas. I got off the boat and wandered over to Junkanoo Beach

Junkanoo Beach, a white sandy beach with beautiful, clear, cerulean waters gently rolling in off the protected harbor. The small number of people in the water doesn't really reflect the 6 giant cruise ships docked at the terminal.

Went to a small local gay rodeo put on by KSGRA today. First rodeo I've gotten to attend and it was pretty fun.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

Warhol's Ladies and Gentlemen series, created in 1974-75, is one of his largest and most lucrative commissions. Luciano Anselmino, an Italian gallerist and art collector, asked Warhol to create a series of over 100 paintings and prints of anonymous "transvestites"-a now outdated term to describe trans women or drag queens. Bob Colacello and Ronnie Cutrone, both of whom worked with Warhol at the Factory, recruited fourteen models from a bar called The Gilded Grape, which Drag Magazine described as "New York's sole... drag hangout," popular with Black and Latina clientele. Warhol more than doubled the commission by making 268 paintings, approximately 65 drawings, and a portfolio of 10 prints. He also took more than 500 Polaroids of the models, an inordinate number relative to his typical portraiture process.

In these artworks, Warhol obscured missing teeth, synthetic wigs, and strong jawlines, instead highlighting the models' dramatic poses, joyful expressions, and glamorous appearances. The resulting artworks use lavish color and kinetic brushwork, creating an exuberance that is generally absent from his portraits of socialites and Hollywood stars. In the five decades since Colacello and Cutrone ventured into the Midtown Manhattan bar to find these models, drag has moved into the mainstream, and debates about gender identity have garnered national attention. These paintings simultaneously represent their historical context and are in dialogue with current ideas about representation, visibility, and self-determination for the trans community.

Valley of Fire Nevada State Park (3 of 3)

Some petroglyphs along the trail to Mouse's Tank. Large red sandstone rocks have been decorated with a prehistoric dark coating that has been etched by Native American peoples before and around the time they became known as the Anasazi.

A bit of the Wave of Fire formation of rocks along the White Dome road at Valley of Fire State Park. A paved road crosses the bottom of the frame, followed by a plain of sandy soil covered with sporadic clusters of shrubs and grasses. The hills in the distance have layers of red sandstone, and yellow sandstone, and dark and light gray rocks. Blue skies fill the top of the frame with very light white clouds added for texture.

The rock formations here resemble large beehives on top of other red rock formations. You can climb up on these formations and explore them.

Petroglyphs at Atlatl Rock in Valley of Fire State Park. A dark layer on the red sandstone has been scraped away to draw pictures by the humans who frequented the region over 4000 years ago.

Went to Las Vegas a few days ahead of a conference to explore a few places. This morning we drove out to Red Rocks West of the city. The views are great and worth taking your time soaking in the scenic loop drive.

I made lemon frosting and lemon curd to decorate a cake for someone's birthday. Did you know the current Ziploc brand zipper bags suck as impromptu piping bags? Me either, and also I can't find my piping bags or tips.
