Narcissistic doomsayers grifting off their doomsaying. Like the "Jesus is coming back tomorrow" and the "end is nigh" types.

Ok, early 90s, I lived in blding that housed baseball players (all Asians) for the Taichung team of the time. Yes, there were prostitutes or lots of sex based on what I heard just going to the elevator, but brutish behavior or scandal, don't remember that. Guess I need to get the book.

As early as 2017, I heard how Taiwanese in China marked themselves by the fact they carried coins and cash. Just before COVID, that beggars like the one pictured had u scan their phone to give them money. This past spring/summer, Chinese & Taiwanese described to me the poor economy in PRC.

One solution: Suica Card app-u add money as needed using phone. Can get around the subway system in major cities and it's accepted by 7/11. Still take coins with me even in Tokyo/Osaka because not all shops are set up for apps or credit cards. Taiwan has a physical card that does same thing.

I love Kavalan. I have only bought in Taiwan when I'm there and prefer the aged or oak whiskey. I have sampled every bottle they sell. Worth the money.

Have to be careful. For years we heard Russia would never attack another state because of falling population. Powell made that argument. Never bought it. Not because I'm super smart or prescient. I want to think demographics could deter attack esp China, but not convinced. Look Russ-Ukraine War.

I admire the hard-working people who are substitute teachers who don't hang their head in shame for what they do but too often people have that kind of Sarah Palin long pause when they hear the word "teacher".

Yeah, just ask the Beatles who did it with a crappy speaker system and over 50000 screaming people at Shea. They couldn't even hear their own music. Yeah, sound systems are better today but it's not the same experience like an arena.

Family/friends who fought in WWII made it clear they only knew what was happening 100 yds to the front, flank or rear if that, at least if they were foot soldiers. In that small box they struggled to survive. They only appreciated another theater if they TDYed to Pacific after serving in Europe.

05 Air Show in AZ, F-15s parked in two lines prepping for TO. Pilots briefing on tarmac. Over noise, I whistled/shouted/hand signaled abt 200 civvies lined up 25 yards away. Turn to runway wld point those engines their way. Pilots reacted/moved people farther away. Not incompetent, just distracted.

just spent 8 days in Japan. 2nd time in 9 years. Other than kerfuffle at University I did some work at, no other negative experiences. don’t know if wife will go back to Korea. last year she had rough experiences even if you’re from Taiwan, if people think you’re Chinese, you get the rude treatment.
