People drive because there are distances between and easy cheap driving. Many opt to use escooters. The car looses appeal. 111
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Arguably downtown should only be for walking. No cars or scooters or anything except for people with disabilities. In my opinion buses and trams should stop their routes in the few hundred square meters zone in the centre of Oslo and simply reverse their routes. 100
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Bike seat bias, that's a new one! People are falling over themselves in my replies to demonstrate it 100

Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Were these teen bikers continuing to bike later? No, they weren't, with minimal exceptions. They may continue to scoot though. I didn't mean to post this to troll, genuinely, but the reactions of hardcore bike enthusiasts show how out of touch you guys are. The head maths is wrong 100
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Walking around looking for an escooter is a surprisingly good way to get steps in 000
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026They shouldn't be on the pavements but they should not be banned. It is a terrible shame that cyclists are being so short sighted. 110
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026So Labour are so desperate never to be in any form of coalition that the party would rather veer wildly between political standpoints nimbly enough that voters won't notice how they don't deliver on any of it. Doesn't matter, they won't enjoy a majority any more a couple of years from now. 010
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Sure but also. Walking by choice. Not from some paternalistic/moralistic idea about how people are Supposed To behave. Sometimes people should be free to take the lazy option 100

Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Obviously I am a massive public transport advocate. Oslo is stuck in terms of funding until a city friendly government gets in. Which is an impossibility with the electoral system we have. So the imperfect solution makes sense to me and that's staring us in the face 000
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I love walking from public transport to the fjord and through the forest there. But the outer city sucks to walk in general. People drive so fast, no pavement, few crossings, long ways around because few shortcuts and alleyways etc 210
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026With respect. It seems intuitive to me that young people riding scooters will turn into adults riding scooters. In any case little to prove the idea they can be transformed into cyclists. It's time to stop being moralistic and stop trying to flog a dead horse. Btw walking in Holmlia really sucks 100

Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I can't help but be disappointed. Cyclists were to me radicals and forward thinking urbanites. Not a faction of old farts shaking their fists at passing clouds 100
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I'm not so sure tbh. Media narratives and bluesky are very much not where public opinion is at 100
Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026They should be regulated much better and none of the parties are actually doing it or even talking about it, they are just playing games and sticking to seeing the city from behind their desks 010

Seth @sethpiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Those things are all true. Saying that scooters are clearly popular and have transformative potential is not a defense of the current situation. It's terrible, wild west and causes real hazards to some pavement users. Those are all things authorities should be working to solve 000
