Video Vector is getting feature packed with basically a shader language, but instead of pixel based is more geometry based. Three equations here (coloring background, lines and faces). That and simple vertex info. But basically just three equations.

Seeing “interactive menu” as a special feature on DVDs was always funny, until I found a movie without it. Side note: The Lost World 1925 is shockingly advanced. The attention to detail with saliva, chest fluctuating from breathing, tail articulation, live action blending… was honestly amazed.

The List World from 1925 has a menu that is a lower thirds with a giant ‘play’ button. No expense was spared.

Recently learned about AUv3 audio plugin architecture and was able to get them working in my “soon” to be released video editing app. Because making a commercial sound like chipmunks is a vital bullet point for the features list.

Took far longer than I thought it would, but finally got a really solid video transcription system working. Takes less time than the video is long and costs less than a movie rental... unlocks a whole new realm of International cinema and foreign VHS! This is Wahan Ke Log... a 60's Bollywood SciFi.

Redid my commercial extracting scripts to account for audio silence as well as black frames and added visualization for what it found and what it decided to do. FAR more accurate now to extract commercials. Hate to do it, but I deleted my 4,500 commercial archive and am totally redoing it now.

Each file it processes details what it did so I can review and clean if needed, but in this troublesome video of a fireworks display it caught just the actual commercials and not just dark moments... which since its a camera pointed at night sky... were a lot!

Transcribing and categorizing takes an average 15 secs per 30 sec commercial. 2k in 8ish hours. Categories are far more accurate, though not perfect, especially for the more artistic commercials with little dialog, but it finds NOLA related fairly well now. @filmwritr4.bsky.social Getting exciting!

Latest coding adventure: So last we left off I had a tool to extract commercials from VHS. 4,000 raw videos later (from 20 of 100 tapes) I made a script to transcribe them, find keywords, rename them and sort and categorize them for me automagically. Working on its accuracy but already a huge help!

Previously, these videos had random names, now they have transcripts and are far easier to work with. Working to shift “uncategorized” into positive identifications.

Working on a 2-4 player card game with a mechanic I came up with that I think is pretty interesting. Everyone is one move away from winning. Everyone knows what each others winning moves are. Everyone knows that everyone knows… and everyone moves at the same time. Working title is: Inconceivable!

Would take all night to clip 20Gb of files... which would be maybe 2 VHS tapes if they didn't go full 6hr SLP on me. Today it took me half the day to process 200Gb! Feeling a LOT better about this shelf. The 20 with orange stickers was todays batch. It's not hoarding if you write code for it!

Programming nerd alert! Optimized my commercial extraction shell script to make parsing through VHS for commercials far far faster than it was before. Then learned how to leverage Shortcuts to turn them into Finder quick actions so I can multi-select and just have it save off all the commercials.

Been reorganizing my thrifted DVDs. I mostly grab the odd stuff, skipping movies. Old cartoon and animation collections pile up, but more so special interest. Been sleeving those and found a bin that holds them perfectly, able to flip through the covers. For the rest these awesome library dividers.
