www.videobarbershop.app/capabilities Updated the website with tons of information on what exactly Video Barbershop can do... like in the latest v1.8.5, it supports I-O Data's GV-USB2 as a valid capture device on the Mac. If you know you know. Pretty proud of getting that working.

Been having a blast learning about various deinterlacing algorithms. I’ve got a great UI where you can apply line reconstruction on a 3 sec sample to compare results. It all mentally clicked and I think of it like segments on a Rubik’s cube you compare. I’ll include a ton of incremental variations.

The current interface for the deinterlacing UI including a preview of before and after.

Working on some polish of the text overlay system. More control of padding and the background, as well as adding text outline and grouping controls in four separate collections, Text, Layout, Readability and Background. Also adding a welcome message and onboarding popup for first time users.

v1.4.0 added the ability to capture video in Video Barbershop. In this video I detail exactly how it works... and a bug in audio capture that I discovered while making this video... so that was fun... but important to be aware of at 15:50!

Taking a break from trying to get the word out and shifting back to bug hunting and optimization. Although the commercial break auto-clipping tool is far better than it was in early development, I'm focusing on speeding it up! Hoping to get these addressed this week, expect an update early next week

Thank you everyone that beta tested Video Barbershop. Hopefully you saw the message posted to the build in TestFlight that it was coming to an end. I didn't see a simple way to send a message to the testers in TestFlight... preventing spam I guess? Seems like that would be a nice feature.

Alright! v1.3.2 is out and there is a very good chance this will be the final ship build. Looks like it's pretty solid and I'll submit for official release on the Apple App Store next week! It's been about 9-10 months in development, and I'm really proud of how far its come in that time.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 18/03/2026

I realized I could speed up commercial break detection. I don’t have actual stats on the difference but it’s looking like it’s pushing 25x faster 😬😂

v1.3.0 has been pushed live, with it a much needed boost to loading videos and background audio caching, dramatically speeding up your editing!

011

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 05/03/2026

Was able to track down some performance crippling bugs dealing with clips and audio, as well as timeline scrubbing slowness. Hopefully should be cleaned up this week.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 03/03/2026

v1.2.9 is live… some additional metadata template functions, and some tweaks, but the main addition is finer control of audio and video bitrate on export. Before I was just letting the OS calculate the best quality but that’s a bit silly with fuzzy SLP VHS. 😂

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 17/02/2026

One of those days. Thought v1.2.7 was about to go live then noticed a big bug. Had to fix and resubmit so maybe Thursday? Anyway, work for 1.2.8 creeped in, but we’ll just call it 1.2.7. 😂

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 13/02/2026

v1.2.6 is now available! Helpful transform buttons and a total revamp of the template language. Was actually approved faster than I expected, but I’ll get new videos up about the metadata grammar shortly.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 11/02/2026

v1.2.6, which should be available shortly, adds helpful buttons to automate common VHS video transformations, like correcting the aspect ratio of an upscaled video, or fullscreening for social media. I also show how you can pan and track subject matter after cropping.

Today metadata in Video Barbershop officially turned to plaid. I got recursive parsing working, which begged should I add branching logic, and things got so silly with embedded braces that I put Lisp to shame… so now I’m working on a macro system. Metadata templates might be Turing complete.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 04/02/2026

Great day bug fixing. Finally fixed an annoying video preview bug that was not playing nice with anchors and changes to resolutions and aspect ratios. Next weeks update should also contain a couple helpful details related to video scaling as well. Making strides towards launch! 🚀

This week I got working metadata management and output logs! Still some polish needed but talking to @faroutvhs.bsky.social about cataloging inspired this addition. Fully customizable. Doing things like YouTube chapter markers for merged clips is trivial. Really excited with this feature! Next week!

v1.2.0 Beta has been approved and is live on TestFlight! The big addition is keyframes added to most of the clip editing controls. I just finished timeline zoom controls, v1.2.1 Beta, and will be getting that in the queue for hopefully a Friday update.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 21/01/2026

Started working on timeline zooming and slider UI. Got the sliders working with the video timeline… clip timeline is going to be a beast but hopefully get working in the next couple days!

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 16/01/2026

Alright, v1.2.0 Beta is off to Apple for approval. In it some bug fixes and polish, but the big addition is keyframing! Video tutorials coming this weekend. Due to the holiday, Monday, I expect it approved and will go live Tuesday. Be on the look out! You can do some really cool animations now!

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 14/01/2026

Keyframing rollout going well. About half the controls have it now. Audio, oddly, proved tricky in addition to the fade in/out controls. Had to put on my thinking cap for that one. But should have them all in by the weekend. So I expect an update live early next week.

010

Video Barbershop @videobarbershop.bsky.social · 10/01/2026

Keyframing and controls are fully prototyped out for watermarking. Next week I’ll roll it out to all other controls and get a build together for TestFlight. Then I need to get off the fence and decide if I want to develop subtitle editing or just bug fix and ship. Either way getting close to ship!
